Serhii Prokazin
Serhii Prokazin (; November 3, 1975 – 25 August 2023) was a Ukrainian military pilot, Major of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a participant in the defence of Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war and the full-scale Russian invasion afterwards. He was posthumously awarded the Hero of Ukraine in 2023. Biography A resident of Poltava Oblast, Prokazin was involved with aviation for 24 years. He served as a major, pilot and deputy commander of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade. From the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he logged more than 100 hours of combat flight time, and was involved in air operations, including tactical missions in the Eastern and Zaporizhzhia directions. Prokazin died on 25 August 2023 in a collision between two L-39 combat trainer aircraft. He was piloting one aircraft, while the other was piloted by Major Viacheslav Minka. Termez ( ) is the capital of Surxondaryo Region in southern Uzbekistan. Administratively, it is a district-level city. Its population is 182,800 (2021). The 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade "Ghost of Kyiv" (Military Unit Number А1789) is a formation of the Ukrainian Air Force, composed primarily of Mikoyan MiG-29 aircraft, that is based at Vasylkiv. History In January 1992 the regiment took the oath of loyalty to the Ukrainian people. Upon the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade played an important role in the Kyiv offensive. Viacheslav Mykolaiovych Minka (; 1960 – 25 August 2023) was a Ukrainian military pilot, Major of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Hero of Ukraine (2023, posthumously). Biography Minka was born in 1960 in Boryspil, Kyiv Oblast. In 1981, he graduated from the Kacha Military Aviation School. He served in Konotop, Mykolaiv, and Uman. In 1994, he retired from the Armed Forces with the rank of major and settled in Kyiv Oblast. During the ATO in Eastern Ukraine, he served in the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2015. He participated in the ATO/JFO in Donbas. In 2018, he was demobilized. However, with the outbreak of a full-scale war with Russia, the officer returned to the Armed Forces. He was a pilot of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade.
