Sergius II of Constantinople (; died July 1019) was the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from July 1001 to 1019. According to the history of John Skylitzes, he was a relative of the celebrated 9th-century patriarch Photius I. In 1001, he was abbot of the Monastery of Manuel, which had been re-founded by Photius I, when he was elected to fill the patriarchal see (June/July 1001). Sisinnius II Of Constantinople
Sisinnius II of Constantinople (; died 24 August 998) became Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople in 996 and held the post until his death in 998. According to the histories of John Skylitzes and Joannes Zonaras, he was extremely well educated, particularly in medical matters, and had been honoured with the office of ''magistros''.. He was elected to the patriarchate on 12 April 996, after the see had remained vacant for more than four years, due to the preoccupation of Emperor Basil II with his wars against the Bulgarians. On 21 February 997, he issued a ''tomos'' on prohibiting marriage between persons related to the fifth or sixth degree. Eustathius of Constantinople (; died November 1025) was Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from July 1019 to November 1025. Eustathius was the protopresbyter of the imperial palace when he was raised to the Patriarchal throne by the Emperor Basil II, after the death of Sergius II. Eustathius participated in the efforts of the Byzantines in 1024 to come to an accommodation with the Latin Papacy concerning the widening gap between the Western and Eastern churches, which culminated in the Schism of 1054. At the time of Eustathius, the Papacy claimed dominion over the Christian world, not just primacy, a position which offended Constantinople, the effective spiritual guides of much of the East to include the Russians, Bulgarians and Serbs. John Skylitzes, commonly Latinized as Ioannes Scylitzes (, ; , ; early 1040s – after 1101), was a Byzantine historian of the late 11th century. Life Very little is known about his life.
