Serbia Centre ( sr-cyrl, Србија центар, Srbija centar, abbr. SRCE) is a List of political parties in Serbia, political party in Serbia. It is led by Zdravko Ponoš, former Chief of the Serbian General Staff, chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces from 2006 to 2008. Ponoš was the presidential candidate of the United for the Victory of Serbia alliance in the 2022 Serbian general election, 2022 election. Zdravko Ponoš
Zdravko Ponoš ( sr-cyrl, Здравко Понош; born 3 November 1962) is a Serbian politician, former diplomat, and retired general who served as chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces from 2006 to 2008. Born in Golubić, a village near Knin, Ponoš later moved to Zagreb, where he spent most of his youth and obtained a degree in electronic engineering. Ponoš moved to Serbia in 1986, where he began his military career. Two years later, he obtained a job at the Department of Development and Equipment in Belgrade, where he worked until 2002. Ponoš then acquired a position at the Ministry of Defense, where he served as an advisor to multiple ministers, including future president Boris Tadić. In 2005, he was promoted to the rank of major general after having served as a colonel since 2000, and also became deputy chief of the General Army. General elections were held in Serbia on 3 April 2022 to elect both the President of Serbia, president and Member of parliament, members of the National Assembly (Serbia), National Assembly. Belgrade School Shooting
On 3 May 2023, a school shooting occurred at Vladislav Ribnikar Model Elementary School in the Vračar municipality of Belgrade, Serbia. The shooter, identified as a 13-year-old male student, mass shooting, opened fire on students and staff, resulting in the deaths of ten individuals, including nine students and a security guard. Six others, five students and a teacher, also sustained injuries. The shooter surrendered willingly and was taken into custody. However, due to his age being below 14, which falls below Serbia's age of criminal responsibility, the shooter could not face legal charges. In May 2023, a series of mass protests began in Belgrade and other locations in Serbia, following Belgrade school shooting, a school shooting in Belgrade and Mladenovac and Smederevo shootings, a spree shooting near Mladenovac and Smederevo. Vranje ( sr-Cyrl, Врање, ) is a city in Southern Serbia and the administrative center of the Pčinja District. The Serbian Progressive Party ( sr-cyrl, Српска напредна странка, Srpska napredna stranka, SNS) has been the ruling political party of Serbia since 2012. Local elections were held in Belgrade on 17 December 2023 to elect members of the City Assembly of Belgrade, City Assembly.
