Serbia competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, People's Republic of China. The country returned under the name ''Serbia'' after 96 years, previously competing under the names ''Yugoslavia'' (1920–1988), '' Independent Olympic Participants'' (1992), ''Yugoslavia'' (1996–2002) and ''Serbia and Montenegro'' (2004–2006). Serbia Men's National Water Polo Team
The Serbia men's national water polo team represents Serbia in international men's water polo. It is considered to be one of the most successful men's water polo teams in the world, winning medals in all Olympic tournaments it has entered, including three golds, and being a multiple world and European champion. Not including the results of the former Yugoslav team, the Serbian team won three World Championships, seven European Championships, three World Cups, record 12 FINA World Leagues, four gold medals at Mediterranean Games, four gold medals at Summer Universiades and gold medal at the first and so far only water polo tournament at the European Games, justifying the status of water polo as the national sport of Serbia. Slobodan Soro
Slobodan Soro (Serbian Cyrillic: Слободан Соро; born 23 December 1978) is a Serbian-born Brazilian water polo goalkeeper. As a member of the Serbia men's national water polo team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics, he won the bronze medal in both of those Olympics. With Serbia he won the 2012 Men's European Water Polo Championship. It was his second gold medal in the competition. In 2011 he won the National Championship and National Cup of Serbia, LEN Euroleague, LEN Supercup and Eurointer League with Partizan Raiffeisen. Vladimir Vujasinović ( sr-cyrl, Владимир Вујасиновић; ; born 14 August 1973) is a Serbian professional water polo head coach and former player. He currently serves as head coach of VK Novi Beograd. Aleksandar Šapić ( sr-cyrl, Александар Шапић; born 1 June 1978) is a Serbian politician and former professional water polo player who has been the mayor of Belgrade since 2024, previously serving that role from 2022 to 2023. Filip Filipović ( sr-Cyrl, Филип Филиповић; born 2 May 1987) is a Serbian professional water polo player widely considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Nikola Rađen ( sr-cyr, Никола Рађен, ; born 29 January 1985) is a Serbian water polo player who plays for Serbian club Crvena zvezda. Dejan Savić ( sr-cyr, Дејан Савић; born 24 April 1975) is a Serbian professional water polo coach and former player. During his playing career, he was part of two Olympic bronze medal squads, one for FR Yugoslavia at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, the other for Serbia at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and one Olympic silver medal squad for Serbia and Montenegro at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Vanja Udovičić, (born Franjo Udovičić,, on 12 September 1982) is a Serbian politician and former professional water polo player who served as minister of youth and sports from 2013 to 2022. An independent politician, he is aligned with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). During an illustrious professional water polo career that spanned 15 seasons, Udovičić played for Partizan Belgrade, Jadran Herceg Novi, Posillipo Naples, Pro Recco, Mladost Zagreb and Radnički Kragujevac.
