The Sequatchie Valley Railroad was originally part of the Jasper Branch Railroad that was founded in 1860. The SQVR took over in the mid 1990s and now runs from Bridgeport, Alabama, to near Jasper, Tennessee. It is categorized as a "Local Railroad" by the AAR. Jasper Branch Railroad
Jasper, an Aggregate (geology), aggregate of microgranular quartz and/or cryptocrystalline chalcedony and other mineral phases, is an Opacity (optics), opaque, impure variety of Silicon dioxide, silica, usually red, yellow, brown or green in color; and rarely blue. The common red color is due to Iron#Chemistry and compounds, iron(III) Inclusion (mineral), inclusions. Jasper breaks with a smooth surface and is used for ornamentation or as a gemstone. Bridgeport, Alabama
Bridgeport is a city in Jackson County, Alabama, United States. At the time of 2020 census the population was 2,264, down from 2,418 in 2010. Bridgeport is included in the Chattanooga-Cleveland-Dalton, TN-GA-AL Combined Statistical Area. History Bridgeport developed after the 1840s, when European Americans established a riverboat landing here along the Tennessee River. This landing was a place for local farmers to trade their crops for other goods. Within a few years, a small hamlet known as "Jonesville" had developed around the landing, and included a trading post, gristmill, warehouses, and several saloons. Jasper is a town in and the county seat of Marion County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 3,612 at the 2020 census. The town was formed in 1820 from lands acquired from Betsy Pack, daughter of Cherokee Chief John Lowery. Jasper is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area.
