Seppo Ruohonen
Seppo Ruohonen (25 April 1946 — 1 March 2020) was a Finnish operatic tenor and voice pedagog. Education Ruohonen trained initially under Lea Piltti, and later continued in Vienna at the Vienna State Opera school and the ''Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst'' (now the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he obtained three separate degrees (opera, lied and oratorio, and voice), all with the highest available grade. Career Ruohonen's professional debut came in Turku in 1969, singing Don José's role in ''Carmen''. He was afterwards signed by the Finnish National Opera, where he performed a total of 23 roles, in nearly 250 performances. From 1978 to 1994 he was attached to Oper Frankfurt. He also had attachments to Vienna State Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Turku
Turku ( ; ; sv, Åbo, ) is a city and former capital on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, in the region of Finland Proper (''Varsinais-Suomi'') and the former Turku and Pori Province (''Turun ja Porin lääni''; 1634–1997). The Deutsche Oper Berlin is a German opera company located in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin. The resident building is the country's second largest opera house (after Munich's) and also home to the Berlin State Ballet. Matti Salminen
Matti Kalervo Salminen (born 7 July 1945) is a Finnish operatic bass, now retired, who has sung at the most important opera houses of the world, including the Metropolitan and Bayreuth Festival. He is distinguished by an imposing figure and height (6' 5"), a cavernous, heavy, dark voice with an expansive upper register, and an expressive face. According to one reviewer, in his prime Salminen was "... simply the largest bass voice in captivity. It is not just its roar in powering over Wagner's maximum orchestra, but the way he carves the sonority and forms the color." Salminen has a special gift for playing menacing, threatening characters. He performed as Fafner and Hagen in the PBS video broadcast ''Ring Cycle'' from the Metropolitan Opera, for the largest viewing-audience of the ''Ring'' in history. The Order of the Lion of Finland ( fi, Suomen Leijonan ritarikunta; sv, Finlands Lejons orden) is one of three official orders in Finland, along with the Order of the Cross of Liberty and the Order of the White Rose of Finland. Savonlinna Opera Festival
Savonlinna Opera Festival ( fi, Savonlinnan oopperajuhlat) is held annually in the city of Savonlinna in Finland. The Festival takes place at the medieval Olavinlinna (St. Olaf's Castle), built in 1475. The castle is located amid spectacular lake scenery. Origin The birth of the Savonlinna Opera Festival ties in closely with the emerging Finnish identity and striving for independence at the beginning of the 20th century. Attending a nationalist meeting in Olavinlinna Castle in 1907, the Finnish soprano Aino Ackté, already famous at opera houses the world over and an ardent patriot, immediately spotted the potential of the castle as the venue for an opera festival.
