Sepp Mayerl
Sepp Mayerl, also known as Blasl-Sepp (14 April 1937 − 28 July 2012) was an Austrian mountaineer. Mayerl was born on 14 April 1937 as the youngest of seven children into a farmer's family in the Tyrolean village of Göriach near Dölsach. He is renowned for making the first ascent of Lhotse Shar — a subsidiary summit of Lhotse — in May 1970 together with his friend Rolf Walter and for first climbing Mt. Jitchu Drake in May 1983 with Werner Sucher, Albert Egger, Alois Stuckler and Toni Ponholzer. Lavant, Tyrol
Lavant is a municipality in the district of Lienz in the upper Drava, Drautal valley in East Tyrol, Austria. It is located southeast of the city of Lienz. History After the fifth century, Lavant replaced the ancient Roman settlement of Aguntum. In 1948, archaeological ruins from the late Roman and early Christian period were discovered on the Kirchbichl mountain. These discoveries included the remains of a castle with episcopal residence, a Roman temple with tombs and votive altars dating from the second and third centuries, a fortification gate flanked by two towers, and an early Christian church built in four phases, dating from the fourth century. Lhotse
Lhotse ( ; ; ) is the List of highest mountains#List, fourth-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga. At an elevation of above sea level, the main summit is on the border between Tibet Autonomous Region of China and the Khumbu region of Nepal. Mount Jitchu Drake
Jichu Drake (pronounced drah kay) is a mountain in Bhutan among the Himalayas, and a companion peak to Mount Jomolhari. Its height is given variously as 6714m, 6789m, 6797m, 6970m or 6989m by various sources. Jitchu Drake has a double summit, with the lower summit to the south. The Dolomites ( ), also known as the Dolomite Mountains, Dolomite Alps or Dolomitic Alps, are a mountain range in northeastern Italy. Reinhold Messner
Reinhold Andreas Messner (; born 17 September 1944) is an Italian climber, explorer, and author from the German-speaking province of South Tyrol. He made the first solo ascent of Mount Everest and, along with Peter Habeler, the first ascent of Everest without supplemental oxygen. He was the first person to climb all 14 eight-thousanders, doing so without supplementary oxygen. Messner was the first to cross Antarctica and Greenland with neither snowmobiles nor dog sleds and also crossed the Gobi Desert alone. He is widely considered to be the greatest mountaineer of all time.
