Seok (Korean Name)
Seok, also spelled Suk, is a rare Korean family name held by about 56,500 South Koreans, as well as an element in some Korean given names. As a family name The family name Seok can be written with either of two hanja, one meaning "stone" (), and the other meaning "ancient" (). The former version is the more widespread of the two. The 2000 South Korean census found 46,066 people by this name. Of these, the great majority are members of the Gyeongju Seok clan and the Chungju (also called Hongju) Seok clan. The latter had a 2000 South Korean population of 9,544. The Gyeongju Seok clan claims descent from certain of the early rulers of Silla; the first Gyeongju Seok to sit on the throne was the fourth Silla king, Talhae. In a study by the National Institute of the Korean Language based on 2007 application data for South Korean passports, it was found that 61.3% of people with that surname spelled it in Latin letters as Seok in their passports, vs. 30.6% as Suk. Yi Seok
Yi Seok (; born 3 August 1941) is a South Korean entrepreneur. He is a member of the House of Yi, the royal house of Joseon and Korean Empire. He is the 10th son of Prince Yi Kang, the fifth son of Emperor Gojong, and one of his concubines, Lady Hong Chŏng-sun. Yi has been described as "one of two pretenders to the Korean throne and the only one living in Korea". Yi promotes the creation of a constitutional monarchy alongside the existing presidential system. In August 2006, Yi founded the Imperial Cultural Foundation of Korea () to support this proposal. In his early life, he gained fame as a singer and he released a 1967 album ''Pigeon House.'' Since 2004, he has been employed by the city of Jeonju to promote tourism. Bailey Drew Sok (; born February 24, 2004), known mononymously as Bailey, is an American singer, professional dancer, and choreographer based in South Korea. Suk Hyun-jun (; or ; born 29 June 1991) is a South Korean footballer who plays as a forward for K4 League club Namyangju FC.
