Seo Chae-hyun
Seo Chae-hyun (Hangul: , born 1 November 2003), also known as Chaehyun Seo, is a South Korean professional rock climber who specializes in competition climbing. She won the overall 2019 World Cup title in competition lead climbing in her senior debut season. Early life Seo was born into a family of climbers. She started climbing in 2008. Her father owns a climbing gym in Seoul. Climbing career Rock climbing In 2018, at age fourteen, Seo redpointed a sport climbing route called ''Bad Girls Club'' at the Wicked Cave at Rifle, Colorado. On November 22, 2022, Seo redpointed the famous Spanish sport climb, '' La Rambla'', becoming the second woman to redpoint the route. Competition Climbing
A climbing competition (or comp) is usually held indoors on purpose built climbing walls. There are three main types of climbing competition: lead, speed, and bouldering. In lead climbing, the competitors start at the bottom of a route and must climb it within a certain time frame in a single attempt, making sure to clip the rope into pre-placed quickdraws along the route. Bouldering competitions consist of climbing short problems without rope, with the emphasis on number of problems completed and the attempts necessary to do so. Speed climbing can either be an individual or team event, with the person or team that can climb a standardized route the fastest winning. The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) is the international governing body for the sport of competitive climbing, which consists of the disciplines lead climbing, speed climbing, and bouldering. It was founded in Frankfurt on 27 January 2007 by 48 member federations, and is a continuation of the International Council for Competition Climbing, which had been in existence from 1997 to 2007 and was a part of the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA). Due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the IFSC suspended the Russian and Belarusian federations, and cancelled all events in Russia in 2022. 2021 IFSC Climbing World Cup
The 2021 IFSC Climbing World Cup was the 33rd edition of the international sport climbing competition series, held in seven locations. There are 11 events: four bouldering, five lead, and two speed events. The season began on 16 April in Meiringen, Switzerland with the first bouldering competition in the season, and concluded on 4 September in Kranj, Slovenia. 2019 IFSC Climbing World Cup
The 2019 IFSC Climbing World Cup was held in 12 locations. Bouldering, lead and speed competitions were each held in 6 locations. The season began on 5 April in Meiringen, Switzerland with the first bouldering competition in the season, and concluded on 27 October in Inzai, Japan, with the last lead climbing competition in the season. The top 3 in each competition received medals, and the overall winners were awarded trophies. At the end of the season an overall ranking was determined based upon points, which athletes were awarded for finishing in the top 30 of each individual event. Jongwon Chon
Chon Jong-won (born February 7, 1996) is a South Korean sport climber, who won the IFSC Climbing World Cup in 2015 and 2017 in the bouldering discipline. Biography In 2012 Chon participated in his first international youth competitions. In 2013 he won second place in the Asian youth championships. Since 2014 he climbs as an adult in the Bouldering World Cup. In his first season, he reached the finals twice and won fourth place both times. He finished the season at rank 9. Chon reached the finals of the IFSC World Cup four times in 2015 and finished 6th in Toronto, 2nd in Chongquing, 1st in Haiyang, and 3rd in Munich.
