Sengkurong, Brunei-Muara
Mukim Sengkurong is a mukim in Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. The population was 31,493 in 2016. Etymology The mukim is named after Kampong Sengkurong, one of the villages it encompasses. Geography The mukim is located in the western- and north-westernmost part of the district, bordering the South China Sea to the north, Mukim Gadong 'A' to the east, Mukim Kilanas to the south-east, Mukim Pengkalan Batu to the south and Mukim Keriam in Tutong District to the west. Off the coastline of Mukim Sengkurong there are various land extensions to the sea. Some of these prominent 'land extensions' are located near Empire Hotel & Country Club and Pantai Jerudong. These man-made modifications include two, spit-like long extensions towards the sea that forms an almost lagoon-like enclosure that surrounds a body of water to the left and right. Kampong Tanjong Nangka
Kampong Tanjong Nangka is a village in the west of Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. The population was 3,118 in 2016. It is one of the villages within Mukim Sengkurong. The postcode is BG2321. Etymology Tanjung Nangka is one of the most unique village names in Brunei. As is customary, Brunei's villages either had a number of names assigned to them in the past or the village itself had numerous place names, but only one was chosen to serve as the village's name. There were three prior names for Kampong Tanjung Nangka, but none of them are now in use. Most significantly, each name had a connection to a tree. Kampong Temiang is the first of the village's three prehistoric names. One of the bamboo species, referred to in Brunei as temiang, used to be a common sight in the village. Another name for the area was Kampong Kayu Tinggi, which was derived from a very tall tree nearby (kayu tinggi means high wood). Kampong Mulaut is a village in Brunei-Muara District, Brunei, about from the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. The population was 5,846 in 2016. It is one of the villages within Mukim Sengkurong. Etymology According to one of the residents of Kampong Mulaut, the earliest school built there was Sekolah Rendah Orang Kaya Setia Bakti. When the Kampong Mulaut area was newly developed with the construction of roads and schools, when a person stood on the hill there and looked towards the flat area below, the person looked as if the flat area under the hill was covered by the sea. Based on the scenery, it was the inspiration to name this village as Kampong Mulaut. Kampong Sengkurong 'B'
Kampong Sengkurong is a village in the west of Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. The total population was 5,003 in 2016. Etymology The names Sengkurong and Bengkurong have a number of different origin stories, but according to Dusun speakers, Sengkurong means Kurong People and Bengkurong means Kurong River. In the past, the region around Sengkurong/Bengkurong was probably known as Kurong. Kurong can also refer to an enclosure. The river that once ran through the area meandered, as do most rivers. It formerly meandered so much that it virtually formed a circle around the location. According to legend, this river's meandering sections once intersected and formed a circle when flooding occurred, but this circular path was interrupted because of the river's rapid flow. Geographically speaking, the circle creates an oxbow lake that is completely cut off from the river.
