Semih Kaplanoğlu
Semih Kaplanoğlu (born 4 April 1963) is a Turkish people, Turkish screenwriter, film director and producer. Life and career In 1984, Kaplanoğlu moved to Istanbul and worked for a couple of years as a copywriter for advertising companies like Güzel Sanatlar Saatchi & Saatchi and Young & Rubicam. He switched over to cinema in 1986 to become an focus puller, assistant cameraman for two award-winning documentary films. In 1994 Kaplanoğlu wrote the script and directed a television series Şehnaz Tango with 52 episodes which was aired on TV channels Show TV and Star TV (Turkey), InterStar and became successful. Kaplanoğlu's debut feature ''Away from Home (film), Away From Home'' was awarded Best Director in Singapore International Film Festival, Singapore IFF in 2001. 60th Berlin International Film Festival
The 60th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 11 to 21 February 2010, with Werner Herzog as president of the jury. The opening film of the festival was Chinese director Wang Quan'an's romantic drama '' Apart Together'', in competition, while the closing film is Japanese director Yoji Yamada's '' About Her Brother'', which was screened out of competition. The Golden Bear went to Turkish film '' Bal'' directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu. A new record attendance was established with 282,000 sold tickets, according to the organizers. A restored version of Fritz Lang's ''Metropolis'' was also shown at the festival. Show TV is a Turkish free-to-air national television channel, established in 1991 by Erol Aksoy, Dinç Bilgin, Haldun Simavi and Erol Simavi, owned by the Can Holding. History The channel replaces Cine5's now-defunct frequencies, and it was originally established by the Turkish businessmen Erol Aksoy and Haldun Simavi, and originally launched on March 1, 1991, when it commenced its test transmissions. A year later, the channel moved its headquarters to Istanbul, Turkey, and were at the same time starting its official broadcasts. ''Taraf'' ("Side" in Turkish) was a liberal newspaper in Turkey. It had distinguished itself by opposing interference by the Turkish military in the country's social and political affairs. It was distributed nationwide, and had been in circulation since November 15, 2007. On July 27, 2016, the newspaper was closed under a statutory decree during the state of emergency after the 2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt, due to its links with the coup plotters' Gülen movement. Overview ''Taraf'' has published a series of highly-controversial stories that revealed the involvement of the Turkish military in daily political affairs. ''Zaman'' (, literally "time" or "era"), sometimes stylized as ZAMAN, was a daily newspaper in Turkey. ''Zaman'' was a major, high-circulation daily before government seizure on 4 March 2016 (the circulation was around 650,000 as of February 2016). ''Sabah'' is a Turkish daily newspaper, with a circulation of around 330,000 as of 2011. Its name means "morning" in Turkish language, Turkish. The newspaper was founded in İzmir by Dinç Bilgin on 22 April 1985. In 2007, the government of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan seized the newspaper, citing a legal document that had not been disclosed to authorities when ''Sabah'' was sold in 2001. Ownership of the newspaper was given to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund of Turkey. Abdi İpekçi (9 August 1929 – 1 February 1979) was a Turkish journalist, intellectual and human rights activist. He was murdered when he was editor-in-chief of one of the main Turkish daily newspapers '' Milliyet'' which then had a centre-left political stance. Biography İpekçi was born in Istanbul, Turkey to a wealthy and prominent elite Dönmeh family of the Karakaşı denominational sect originally from Salonica. ''Radikal'' () was a daily liberal Turkish language newspaper, published in Istanbul. From 1996 it was published by Aydın Doğan's Doğan Media Group. The 66th Cannes Film Festival took place from 15 to 26 May 2013. American filmmaker Steven Spielberg was the Jury President for the main competition. French actress Audrey Tautou hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. The French film ''Blue Is the Warmest Colour'' won the Palme d'Or. ''Egg'' () is a 2007 Turkish drama film directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu.
