Semi-Gloss Albums
Semi-Gloss was an alternative pop/rock band from the East Village in New York City. Band history The band formed in the early 1990s between Jordy Mokriski and Verena Wiesendanger after Mokriski spent a year in Los Angeles writing songs. When he returned to New York City, he and Wiesendanger recorded a four-track demo. The band gained a small following, performing regularly on the Lower East Side at Luna Lounge, and began opening for artists such as Cat Power and Blonde Redhead. They appeared on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic in 1999. They contributed their single "The Sunburn Song" to the Nickelodeon television series ''The Adventures of Pete & Pete''. Throughout the career of the band, it had been difficult to secure a drummer. Three years after the release of their debut album, the band awaited the release of their second studio album, ''The Falling Kind'' on Dirt Records. KCRW
KCRW (89.9 FM broadcasting, FM) is an NPR member station broadcasting from the campus of Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California, where the station is licensed. KCRW airs original news and music programming in addition to programming from NPR and other affiliates. A network of repeaters and broadcast translators, as well as internet radio, allows the station to serve the Greater Los Angeles area and other communities in Southern California. ''Semi-Gloss'' is the 1997 self-titled debut studio album by Semi-Gloss. A different recording of the song "Morning Takes the Night" appears on the band's previous EP, ''Teenie''. ''The Adventures of Pete & Pete'' is an American television sitcom created by Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi for Nickelodeon. It focuses on two brothers, both named Pete Wrigley, and their humorous and surreal humour, surreal adventures in suburbia among their equally eccentric friends, enemies, and neighbors. ''The Adventures of Pete & Pete'' began on Nickelodeon in 1989 as minute-long and 30-second shorts that aired as Interstitial program, interstitials. Because of the popularity of the shorts, five half-hour specials were made, followed by a regular half-hour series that ran for three seasons from 1993 to 1996. As of October 5, 2015, reruns of the shorts and the shows aired on TeenNick as part of the NickSplat block. ''Morning Becomes Eclectic'' (MBE) is an American three-hour adult album alternative radio program first aired in 1977 and broadcast live every weekday from KCRW in Santa Monica, California. The show's name is a play on the Eugene O'Neill trilogy of plays, '' Mourning Becomes Electra''. The program was created by Isabel Holt. MBE was previously hosted by Tom Schnabel (July 1979 - November 1990), Chris Douridas (1990 - 1998), and Nic Harcourt (1998 - November 2008). Jason Bentley followed Harcourt as host in 2008. He announced that he was relinquishing his duties as Music Director and host of ''Morning Becomes Eclectic'' after 10 years on August 30, 2019. Blonde Redhead
Blonde Redhead is an American alternative rock band composed of Kazu Makino (vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar) and identical twin brothers Simone (drums, keyboards) and Amedeo Pace (lead guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals) that formed in New York City in 1993. The band's earliest albums were noted for their noise rock influences, though their sound evolved by the early 2000s with the releases of '' Misery is a Butterfly'' (2004) and '' 23'' (2007), which both incorporated elements of dream pop, shoegaze and other genres. Alternative Pop
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge subgenre in the United States, and the Britpop and shoegaze subgenres in the United Kingdom and Ireland. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. The emergence of Generation X as a cultural force in the 1990s also contributed greatly to the rise of alternative music. Charlyn Marie "Chan" Marshall ( ; born January 21, 1972), better known by her stage name Cat Power, is an American singer-songwriter. Cat Power was originally the name of her first band, but has become her stage name as a solo artist. Born in Atlanta, Marshall was raised throughout the southern United States and began performing in local bands in Atlanta in the early 1990s.
