Shimei ( ''Šīmʿī'') is the name of a number of persons referenced in the Hebrew Bible and Rabbinical literature. *The second son of Gershon and grandson of Levi (; ; ). The family of the Shimeites, as a branch of the tribe of Levi, is mentioned in ; ("Shimei" in verse 9 could be a scribal error''Jewish Encyclopedia'' (1906), "Shimei."); and in Zechariah 12:13. Semei Kakungulu
Semei Kakungulu (1869 – 24 November 1928) was a Ugandan statesman who founded the Abayudaya (Luganda: ''Jews'') community in Uganda in 1917. He studied and meditated on the Hebrew Bible, Tanakh, adopted the observance of all Moses' commandments, including circumcision, and suggested this observance for all his followers. The Abayudaya have converted to Judaism, mostly through the Reform and Conservative movements, while some have undergone Orthodox conversion. The Abayudaya do not claim ancient Israelite ancestry. He was also chosen to be the president of the Lukiiko (Busoga), Lukiiko of Busoga by the British colonization of Africa, British colonists, and in effect, he became Busoga’s first 'King', although the United Kingdom, British refused to give him that title. However, conflicts amongst the different Tribal chief, chiefs and clans continued, and most Basoga still retained affiliation to their chief, clan or dialect. The Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone (CANWFZ) treaty is a legally binding commitment by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan not to manufacture, acquire, test, or possess nuclear weapons. The treaty was signed on 8 September 2006 at Semipalatinsk Test Site, Kazakhstan, and is also known as Treaty of Semipalatinsk, Treaty of Semei, or Treaty of Semey. The treaty was ratified by Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, and entered into force 21 March 2009. History Steps towards the establishment of such a zone began with the Almaty Declaration in 1992. A resolution calling for the establishment of such a zone was adopted by consensus by the United Nations General Assembly in 1997 and reaffirmed in 2000.
