Christian August Selmer
Christian August Selmer (16 November 1816 – 1 September 1889) was a Norwegian lawyer and a magistrate. He served as a member of the Norwegian Parliament, Minister of Defense and Minister of Justice. He was the prime minister of Norway in Christiana between 1880 and 1884. Background Selmer was born at Fredrikshald in Østfold, Norway and grew up in Halden. He was the son of Johan Christian Selmer (1783-1830) and Johanne Ditlevine Michea Vibe (1788-1879). Selmer studied law at the University of Christiania from 1837, achieved his legal degree in 1842. In 1842, he was magistrate in Sør-Hedmark. In 1848, he was appointed law clerk in the office of attorney P.A. Midelfart in Drammen. Elisabeth Schweigaard Selmer
Elisabeth Schweigaard Selmer (born Ragnhild Elisabeth Schweigaard, 18 October 1923 – 18 June 2009) was a Norwegian jurist and politician for the Conservative Party. During the Nazi occupation of Norway, Elisabeth Schweigaard worked with the Norwegian resistance movement "Hjemmefronten" against the Nazi collaborationist Quisling regime. Ernst Sejersted Selmer
Ernst Sejersted Selmer (11 February 1920 – 8 November 2006) was a Norwegian mathematician, who worked in number theory, as well as a cryptologist. The Selmer group of an Abelian variety is named after him. His primary contributions to mathematics reside within the field of diophantine equations. He started working as a cryptologist during the Second World War; due to his work, Norway became a NATO superpower in the field of encryption. Biography Early life Ernest S. Knut Selmer
Knut Sejersted Selmer (7 November 1924 – 25 March 2009) was a Norwegian legal scholar. He was born in Aker as a son of professor Ernst Westerlund Selmer (1890–1971) and Ella Sejersted (1895–1968), and was the brother of Ernst Sejersted Selmer. He was a grandnephew of Johan Selmer and Jens Selmer and a first cousin of Francis Sejersted. He finished his secondary education at the Haagaas School in 1944 and graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1949. He was a deputy judge in Nord-Troms and Fredrikstad between 1949 and 1952. In January 1950 he married Elisabeth Schweigaard. He was a research fellow at the University of Oslo from 1953 to 1959, took the dr.juris degree in 1958 on the thesis ''The Survival of General Average. Odd Selmer (7 February 1930 – 2 March 2024) was a Norwegian journalist, novelist, crime fiction writer and playwright. Probably best known for his audio plays, he was awarded the Norwegian Ibsen Award in 1988. Early and personal life Selmer was born in Strinda on 7 February 1930, to Jul Olaf Selmer and Dagmar Thekla Aarum. He grew up in Lillehammer, from the age of seven. In 1956 he married hotelier Reidun Lilleseth. Career Selmer started his working career as journalist, working for the newspaper from 1951 to 1953, and for from 1953 to 1954. He attended from 1955 to 1956. He worked one year for the Norwegian News Agency, and eventually for from 1959 to 1971. His book debut was the travelogue from 1958.
