Alan Selman
Alan Louis Selman (April 2, 1941 – January 22, 2021) was an American mathematician and theoretical computer scientist known for his research on structural complexity theory, the study of computational complexity in terms of the relation between complexity classes rather than individual algorithmic problems. Education and career Selman was a graduate of the City College of New York. He earned a master's degree at the University of California, Berkeley before completing his Ph.D. in 1970 at Pennsylvania State University. His dissertation, ''Arithmetical Reducibilities and Sets of Formulas Valid in Finite Structures'', was supervised by Paul Axt, a student of Stephen Cole Kleene. He became a postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, and an assistant professor of mathematics at Florida State University, before moving to the computer science department of Iowa State University, eventually becoming a full professor there. Selman Stërmasi (9 May 1908 – 9 October 1976) was an Albanian football player and coach who was an instrumental figure in the early history of KF Tirana. He is generally considered to be one of the club's greatest figures and KF Tirana along with the Albanian Football Association honoured him in 1990 by renaming the Dinamo Stadium to the Selman Stërmasi Stadium. Selman Selmanagić (25 April 1905 – 7 May 1986) was a Bosnian- German architect and long-time professor at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin who worked extensively for the government of East Germany. Biography Selmanagić was born in Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia, then administered by Austria-Hungary, and grew up from 1918 on in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter and his journeyman's examination, Selmanagić first worked as a carpenter in the wagon factory in Sarajevo in 1923-24 and in 1925, after a one-year visit to the Ljubljana School of Crafts, made his master's job as a construction and furniture carpenter. Selman Riza (1909–1988) was an Albanian linguist and Albanologist. Riza was one of the founding members of the Albanological Institute of Pristina in 1953. Early life Selman Riza was born in Yakova (now Gjakova), Ottoman Empire on 21 December 1909. In 1922 he migrated to Albania, where he first studied in the "Naim Frashëri" school. At the time of his graduation in 1925 he was honored as the best student of the school and gained a scholarship in the National Lyceum of Korçë in 1925. As Riza graduated three years earlier than the regular duration of the studies the lyceum's director Leon Perre suggested him for the annual scholarship of the ministry of education. Selman Kadria
Selman Kadri Hasanaj (1906–1938), known as Selman Kadria, was an ethnic Albanian Hero from the village of Cerrca in Istog, present-day Kosovo. He was linked with the Albanian independence movement in Kosovo. In 1938, he killed the Yugoslav Serbian Chetnik vojvoda (captain), Milić Krstić (known as Miliç Kërrsta in Albanian) for his repressive measures against local Albanians. A few months later, he was himself killed. Numerous folk songs have been composed for his deed.
