Selly Oak (ward)
The Selly Oak local Government of Birmingham, England#Districts, council ward was one of the 40 electoral wards for the City of Birmingham, England prior to 2018. It was also one of the four wards that make up the local Government of Birmingham, England#Council constituencies, council constituency of Selly Oak, the other three being the wards of Billesley ward, Billesley, Bournville (ward), Bournville and Brandwood ward, Brandwood. Description The Selly Oak ward covered an area of south Birmingham, and includes not only the suburb of Selly Oak but also the adjoining districts of Bournbrook, Selly Park and Ten Acres, together with a small part of the Stirchley, West Midlands, Stirchley area. It was replaced by Weoley and Selly Oak ward and Bournbrook and Selly Park ward both created in 2018. Ward (electoral Subdivision)
A ward is a local authority area, typically used for electoral purposes. 2015 Birmingham City Council Election
The 2015 Birmingham City Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of Birmingham City Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections, and also the 2015 UK General Election. In Birmingham, the Labour Party went against the trend across the United Kingdom, as they lost the General Election the Labour Party managed to strengthen its hold on Birmingham City Council as well as performing well in the Westminster seats. This is despite the problems facing the Council in the form of the recent Operation Trojan Horse scandal and the Kerslake review, which was highly critical of Birmingham City Council. It is noteworthy for abolishing plural voting for parliamentary elections, including by the abolition of the twelve separate university constituencies; and for again increasing the number of members overall, in this case to 613.
