Peter Sellars (born September 27, 1957) is an American theatre director, noted for his unique contemporary stagings of classical and contemporary operas and plays. Sellars is professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he teaches ''Art as Social Action'' and ''Art as Moral Action''. He is widely regarded as one of the key figures of theatre and opera of the last 50 years. Wilfrid Stalker Sellars (May 20, 1912 – July 2, 1989) was an American philosopher and prominent developer of critical realism, who "revolutionized both the content and the method of philosophy in the United States". Life and career His father was the Canadian-American philosopher Roy Wood Sellars, a leading American philosophical naturalist in the first half of the twentieth-century. Wilfrid was educated at the University of Michigan (BA, 1933), the University at Buffalo, and Oriel College, Oxford (1934–1937), where he was a Rhodes Scholar, obtaining his highest earned degree, an MA, in 1940. During World War II, he served in military intelligence. Elizabeth Macdonald Sellars (6 May 1921 – 30 December 2019) was a Scottish actress. Early life and education Sellars was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of Stephen Sellars and Jean Sutherland. She appeared on the stage from the age of 15, and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She also studied law for five years in England. Jerell Anthony Sellars (born 11 December 1995) is an English footballer who plays as a forward for Redditch United. Sellars is a graduate of the Aston Villa Academy and played on loan at English Football League clubs Wycombe Wanderers and Cheltenham Town before moving to Östersund in Sweden. William Sellars (5 June 1925 – 19 December 2018) was an English television producer and director, most active from the 1960s to the 1980s. Scott Sellars (born 27 November 1965) is an ex English football coach and former professional footballer who is ex Technical Director at Wolverhampton Wanderers. As a player, he was a winger who made more than 500 appearances, notably playing in the Premier League with Leeds United, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers. He also played football with Blackburn Rovers, in Denmark with AGF Aarhus and in the Football League with Huddersfield Town and Mansfield Town. He was capped three times at England at under-21 level. Lieutenant Herbert Whiteley Sellars (11 June 1896 – 15 May 1918) was a British World War I flying ace credited with eight aerial victories. On 21 March 1918, Sellars shot down and killed the German ace Ludwig Hanstein. Biography Sellars was born in Liverpool, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sellars. He was educated at The Leas, Hoylake, and the Loretto School, Musselburgh, and was entered for Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He began learning to fly at the Beatty School at Hendon Aerodrome in December 1915, and on 10 May 1916 was granted Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate No. 2852 after flying a Caudron biplane. Marilyn Sellars
Marilyn Sellars (born December 31, 1938) is an American country music and gospel singer who had several hits during the mid-1970s on Mega Records, most notably the original version of " One Day at a Time" in 1974. Early career Sellars was born in Northfield, Minnesota in 1938. She started singing in church at the age of three singing "Oh, What A Beautiful Morning". Sellars began singing at functions and clubs around Minnesota as a teenager and after high school graduation in 1956, sang a variety of music with country and Gospel music being her favorites. Mandy Sellars (born 20 February 1975 in Lancashire, United Kingdom) is a British woman with a rare genetic mutation that has resulted in extraordinary growth in both of her legs. In 2006, some doctors diagnosed Sellars as having Proteus syndrome, a very rare condition thought to affect only 120 people worldwide, but more recent diagnoses have focused on a '' PIK3CA'' gene mutation. Harry Sellars
Harry Sellars (9 April 1902 – 30 December 1978) was an English footballer and football manager, who played in the English Football League for Stoke City. He made 395 appearances for Stoke in all competitions, and helped the club to win the Third Division North title in 1926–27 and the Second Division title in 1932–33. He went on to briefly manage League of Ireland side Dundalk in 1947. His son John also played for Stoke in the 1950s. Together, father and son played 808 league and cup games for the club. John Sellars (footballer)
John Sellars (28 April 1924 – 24 June 1985) was a footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke City. He made 384 appearances for Stoke. His father Harry was also a footballer who played for Stoke. Career Sellars was born in Stoke-on-Trent, joining his local club Stoke City where his father Harry had played 395 matches for. He and a number of younger players played for Stoke during the War and was a regular in the side until the Football League resumed in 1946–47 where his place was taken by George Antonio. Frank Mountford's injury in January opened the door for the 22-year-old Sellars to take his chance and he filled in a right half easily, playing a vital role as Stoke fell short of winning their first ever League title. Roy Wood Sellars
Roy Wood Sellars (July 9, 1880, Seaforth, Ontario – September 5, 1973, Ann Arbor, Michigan) was a Canadian-born American philosopher of critical realism and religious humanism, and a proponent of naturalistic emergent evolution (which he called evolutionary naturalism). Sellars received his B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where he taught for over 40 years. He is the father of Wilfrid Sellars. In his 1969 book ''Reflections on American Philosophy From Within'' he described his views on materialism as evolutionary materialism, an extension to his 1922 groundbreaking book ''Evolutionary Naturalism''.
