Selke Valley Railway
The Selke Valley Railway (''Selketalbahn''), ''Gernrode-Harzgerode Railway'' (''Gernroder-Harzgeroder Eisenbahn'') and the ''Anhalt Harz Railway'' (''Anhaltische Harzbahn'') were different names for the metre gauge railway in the Lower Harz, Germany, originally owned by the Gernrode-Harzgerode Railway Company (''Gernrode-Harzgeroder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft'', GHE). It is now only known as the ''Selke Valley Railway''. This has included the Quedlinburg– Gernrode line since 2006. It continues through Alexisbad to Hasselfelde and includes the Alexisbad– Harzgerode branch and the Stiege–Eisfelder Talmühle connecting line. Saxony-Anhalt (german: Sachsen-Anhalt ; nds, Sassen-Anholt) is a state of Germany, bordering the states of Brandenburg, Saxony, Thuringia and Lower Saxony. Silberhütte (Harzgerode)
Silberhütte is a village in the town of Harzgerode in the district of Harz in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Its name means "silver works", a place where silver ore is smelted. Geography Silberhütte lies in the Selke valley of the Lower Harz. History The first recorded mention of Silberhütte dates to the year 1692, which is also the year the place was founded. Hitherto there had been a silver works at this site and several stamp mills, where ore won from the surrounding mines was processed. The artificial channel built to supply water to the works (from 1904 known as the ''Silberhütter Kunstgraben'') is the longest in the Lower Harz Pond and Ditch System at 25.5 km. Ore was processed all year round in four smelting furnaces, two sulphur furnaces and a vitriol works. The smelter produced up to 1.6 t of silver and 870 t of lead annually. Alexisbad
Alexisbad is a small spa town, part of Harzgerode in the district of Harz, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Geography Alexisbad is located about northwest of the Harzgerode town centre on the Bundesstrasse 185 road to Ballenstedt. It is situated in the valley of the Selke river and its Schwefelbach and Friedenstalbach tributaries, in the lower eastern outskirts of the Harz mountain range, about above sea level. The settlement is surrounded by the Harz/Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park. Gernrode-Harzgerode Railway Company
The Gernrode-Harzgerode Railway Company (german: Gernrode-Harzgeroder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft) or GHE was a private railway company in Germany that operated the Selke Valley Railway (the line from Gernrode via Hasselfelde and Alexisbad to Harzgerode and the line from Stiege to Eisfelder Talmühle). It had a junction with the network of the Nordhausen-Wernigerode Railway Company (NWE) at Eisfelder Talmühle station. Güntersberge Station
Güntersberge () is a village and a former town in Harz District, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It holds the status of an officially recognized resort town since 2001.
