Seletar Flying Club
The Seletar Flying Club was previously known as SIA Flying Club, it was set up to arouse an interest in flying among the Singapore Airlines staff. On 16 November 1992, the club made the decision to open its doors to the public who were keen to get a private pilot's license before applying for a pilot's career. On 17th October 2002, Seletar Flying Club was formed with the blessing of Singapore Airlines and assumes the assets and liabilities of SIA Flying Club. Current fleet Seletar Flying Club operates a fleet of three light aircraft consisting of Cessna 172 and Piper PA-28 Cherokee. Activities In 2020, the club inducted its youngest student pilot in Singapore, Tibeau Zhan Fraise, who was only ten years old at the time. In 2024, the Seletar Flying Club welcomed Ethan Guo - a 19-year old Asian-American pilot flying solo to all seven continents in a small aircraft to raise money for cancer research - as he arrived in Singapore during the Southeast Asian leg of his journey. Flying Club
A flying club or aero club is a non-profit organization, not-for-profit, member-run organization that provides its members with affordable access to aircraft. Many clubs also provide flight training, flight planning facilities, pilot supplies and associated services, as well as organizing social functions, fly-ins and fly-outs to other airports and so forth. While flying clubs are home to those who pursue flying as a hobby, many commercial pilots also get their start at flying clubs. Most flying clubs own and rent small general aviation aircraft. In North America and Europe the most popular such aircraft are the Cessna 152, the Cessna 172, and the Piper Cherokee. Seletar Airport
Seletar Airport ( ; ) is a civilian international airport serving the north-east region of Singapore. It is located approximately northwest from Changi Airport, the country's main airport, and about north from the main commercial city-centre. The airfield was originally opened in 1928 as RAF Seletar, a military airbase of the British Royal Air Force (RAF). The base was handed back over to Singapore in 1971. The Government of Singapore intended for Seletar Airport and the surrounding areas to function as the operating aerodrome for their plan to expand Singapore's status as an industrial aviation hub, today known as the Seletar Aerospace Park. Flight Training
Flight training is a course of study used when learning to pilot an aircraft. The overall purpose of primary and intermediate flight training is the acquisition and honing of basic airmanship skills.
