Select Group Referees
The Select Group is a panel of English professional football referees and assistant referees, appointed by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL). The group was first formed in 2001, when England became the first country to use fully professional referees in its top flight. Select Group officials In August 2024, the PGMOL shared updates to the Select Group officiating panels. Furthermore, in August 2024, the retirement of Rebecca Welch was announced. She will become the manager of the Select Group Women's Professional Game at the PGMOL. In December 2024, David Coote was sacked from the PGMOL, removing him from the Select Group 1 referees list. There are 20 Select Group 1 referees, 30 Select Group 1 assistant referees, 20 Select Group 2 referees, and 33 Select Group 2 assistant referees. Chris Kavanagh (born 4 September 1985) is an English professional football referee from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester. He officiates primarily in the Premier League having been promoted to the Select Group of Referees in 2017. Career Kavanagh began his refereeing career at the age of 13. Bobby Madley
Robert Madley (born 6 October 1985) is an English professional football referee who was on the list of Select Group Referees who officiate primarily in the Premier League between 2013 and 2018. He officiated in the Football League as a referee from 2010 and was one of the youngest officials to progress to the top-flight of English football. Oliver Langford
Oliver Langford is an English referee and officiates primarily in the EFL Championship. He is not in the Select Group of match officials but is, however, on the Group Two list and trained in the use of '' Video Assisted Refereeing'', which means he is qualified to take charge of an elite league match. He has been a referee since 2009. He made his Premier League debut on 18 August 2019, when he was scheduled to be the fourth official in Chelsea's home match against Leicester City. Paul Tierney (born 25 December 1980) is a football referee from Wigan, Greater Manchester, who referees in the Premier League. He first officiated in the Premier League on 30 August 2014. Anthony Taylor (born 20 October 1978) is an English professional football referee from Wythenshawe, Manchester. In 2010, he was promoted to the list of Select Group Referees who officiate primarily in the Premier League, and in 2013 became a listed referee for FIFA allowing him to referee European and international matches. Tim Robinson (born 1 January 1984) is an English football referee who officiates primarily in the Premier League. His county FA is the Sussex Football Association.
