Career National Akram represents WAPDA in domestic competitions including National Championships and National Games. 2020 At the 57th National Badminton Championship held in Lahore, Pakistan, Akram competed in singles and women's doubles. In singles, she reached the semi-finals where she was beaten by her teammate, Mahoor Shahzad, the eventual champion. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racket (sports equipment), racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net (device), net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). South Asian Games
The South Asian Games (SAG or SA Games), formerly known as the South Asian Federation Games (SAFG or SAF Games), is a quadrennial multi-sport event held among the athletes from South Asia. The governing body of these games is South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC), formed in 1983. Currently, the SAOC comprises 7 member countries, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan participated 4 times in the SAF Games since 2004, but left the SAOC after participating in the 2016th edition and joined CAOC. Badminton at the 2019 South Asian Games was held in Badminton Covered Hall in Pokhara, Nepal between 1 and 6 December 2019. The badminton programme in 2019 included men's and women's singles competitions; men's, women's and mixed doubles competitions along with men's and women's team events. A total of 94 players from seven countries competed in the competition for 7 gold, 7 silver, and 14 bronze medals. The Pakistan Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA; ur, ) is a government-owned public utility maintaining power and water in Pakistan, although it does not manage thermal power. WAPDA includes Tarbela and Mangla dams among its resources. Its headquarters are in Lahore. Mahoor Shahzad
Mahoor Shahzad (born 17 October 1996) is a Pakistani badminton player. She has competed at the 2014 Asian Games, and also at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games. She also represented Pakistan at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo after receiving a tripartite invitation, thus becoming the first Pakistani badminton player to compete at the Olympic Games. She was also Pakistan's flag bearer at the opening ceremony along with Muhammad Khalil Akhtar. Education Shahzad graduated from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi in 2018, with Economics and Mathematics as her subjects. Career Shahzad began playing badminton in 2008 in Karachi. Palwasha Bashir (born 20 October 1987) is a badminton player, born in Karachi, Pakistan. Bashir was crowned as the National Champion in 2009, winning the women's singles and doubles titles. Palwasha has been representing Pakistan for several years in different International competitions. Initially rising as a star on a national level by winning back-to-back national titles. She won the bronze medal at the 2010 South Asian Games held in Dhaka. This achievement led her to a greater fame and acknowledgement in Pakistan. The 2019 South Asian Games, officially the XIII South Asian Games, was a major multi-sport event which was originally slated to be held from 9 to 18 March 2019 in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal. However, the dates were postponed and the event was held from 1–10 December 2019, coincidentally at the same time as the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.
