Sehestedt
Sehestedt ( da, Sehested) is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Sehestedt is south of the municipality of Groß Wittensee, Haby or Holtsee, but north of Bovenau, and west of Lindau. It is divided into two parts by the Kiel Canal, which has to be crossed by a ferry. Battle Of Sehested
The Battle of Sehested was fought between Danish and Russian-Prussian- British troops at Sehested (in Holstein) on 10 December 1813 during the War of the Sixth Coalition. The Danish Auxiliary Corps, which fought on the side of the French defeated the coalition forces commanded by Major General Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn. The battle, however, would not ultimately change the course of the war, which ended in 1814 with Denmark’s defeat. Background The kingdom of Denmark-Norway found itself involved in the Napoleonic Wars following the events of the Battle of Copenhagen in 1807. To prevent the large Danish-Norwegian fleet from falling into the hands of Napoleon's French Empire, the United Kingdom attacked Copenhagen destroying ships at anchor. Rendsburg-Eckernförde
Rendsburg-Eckernförde (; da, Rendsborg-Egernførde) is a district in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is bounded by (from the east and clockwise) the city of Kiel, the district of Plön, the city of Neumünster, the districts of Segeberg, Steinburg, Dithmarschen and Schleswig-Flensburg, and the Baltic Sea. Bovenau
Bovenau is a village in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Bovenau is only above sea level. The location is south of the municipality of Bünsdorf or Sehestedt, but north of Ostenfeld, Bredenbek, and west of Krummwisch, about away from the center of Kiel. History Bovenau was first mentioned in 1240 as Kirchdorf. The name is derived from the Low German „boven de Au“, which means something like "above the creek". Several megalithic tombs have been found in the area of the settlement. Estates are located in the surrounding area: Gut Dengelsberg, Gut Georgenthal, Gut Kluvensiek, Gut Osterrade, Gut Steinwehr. Kiel Canal
The Kiel Canal (german: Nord-Ostsee-Kanal, literally "North-[to]-East [Baltic] Sea canal", formerly known as the ) is a long freshwater canal in the Germany, German states of Germany, state of Schleswig-Holstein. After the disastrous French invasion of Russia of 1812 in which they had been forced to support France, Prussia and Austria joined Russia, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Portugal, and the rebels in Spain who were already at war with France. The War of the Sixth Coalition saw major battles at Lützen, Bautzen, and Dresden.
