Tepeaca is a municipality in the Mexican state of Puebla in southeastern Mexico. Tepeaca is located 35 km (21.75 mi) from the city of Puebla and is the municipal seat of the municipality of the same name. Its name comes from a Spanish variant of "Tepeyacac" composed of the Nahuatl words ''tepetl'' ("hill") and ''yacatl'' ("nose tip, which is in the foreground") (can be translated in various ways: "in the top of the hill" or "the principle of the hills"). It has been called Tepeaca de Negrete as it was the birthplace and hometown of General Miguel Negrete Novoa. Along with Tecali Herrera, he extracted the onyx and marble. The town was originally founded by Hernán Cortés as Segura de la Frontera. In the parish of San Francisco de Asís is a Child Jesus image called the Santo Niño Doctor de los Enfemos. José Miguel Pascual Negrete Novoa, commonly known as Miguel Negrete was a 19th-century Mexican Major General. He participated in the many Mexican Civil Wars, as well as the Mexican–American War and the Second French intervention in Mexico. Negrete was also the Governor of Puebla from October 13, 1863, to November 4, 1863, and the Minister of War and Navy of Mexico from March 16, 1864 to August 23, 1865. The ''Niño Dios'' (literally Child God) of Mexico is a tradition of venerating the Christ Child, Child Jesus in Mexico which has taken root from the time it was introduced in the 16th century and then synchronized with pre-Hispanic elements to form some unique traditions.
