Segundo Mercado
Laurensio Segundo Mercado (born 5 January 1967) is a retired male boxer from Ecuador. Mercado represented Ecuador at the 1988 Summer Olympics, losing on points in the boxing competition to Martin Kitel of Sweden. He turned professional after the games and, fighting as a middleweight, built up a record of 18-2. On 17 December 1994, Mercado was matched against future undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins for the vacant IBF middleweight title in Quito, Ecuador. Attempting to become his country's first ever world boxing champion, Mercado knocked Hopkins down twice, but the fight was scored a controversial split draw. They met again four months later, and this time Hopkins won via a seventh round technical knockout. Bernard Hopkins
Bernard Hopkins Jr. (born January 15, 1965) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1988 to 2016. He is one of the most successful boxers of the past three decades, having held multiple world championships in two weight classes, including the undisputed middleweight title from 2001 to 2005, and the lineal light heavyweight title from 2011 to 2012. Hopkins first became a world champion by winning the vacant IBF middleweight title in 1995. He would go on to compile 20 defenses against 17 opponents, with 19 wins as a result of his no-contest bout against Robert Allen. In 2001, Hopkins successfully unified the middleweight division by defeating Félix Trinidad to win the WBA (Super), WBC, ''Ring'' magazine and lineal titles.
