Sefton, Merseyside
Sefton is a village and civil parishes in England, civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, England. Located to the south west of Maghull and to the north east of Great Crosby, it is on the flood plain of the River Alt. The village is bisected by the B5422 road, B5422, Brickwall Lane, which cuts also through the site of the moat of Sefton Old Hall, a recognised National Monument. At the United Kingdom Census 2001, 2001 Census the population was recorded as 772, increasing to 855 at the 2011 Census. Ann Elizabeth Sefton
Ann Elizabeth Jervie Sefton AO (born 8 July 1936) is an Australian neurologist and educator. As a visual scientist, she developed descriptions of the connections between the eye and visual centres of the brain. As a student at the University of Sydney she was the first woman to be elected President of the Medical Society. In 2000, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for her services to medical education. She was appointed Pro-Chancellor of the University of Sydney in 2001 and served as Deputy Chancellor from 2004 to 2008. Earl Of Sefton
Earl of Sefton was a title in the Peerage of Ireland created in 1771 for the 8th Viscount Molyneux. The Earls of Sefton held the subsidiary titles Viscount Molyneux, of Maryborough (modern day Portlaoise) in the Queen's County (created 1628), in the Peerage of Ireland, and (from the 2nd Earl onwards) Baron Sefton, of Croxteth in the County Palatine of Lancaster (created 1831), in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. All three titles became extinct upon the death of the 7th Earl in 1972. The Molyneux family's powerful allegiances led to an acquisition of lands and wealth throughout the period 1100–1700, when members of the family were lords of the manor at Sefton. Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council
Sefton Council, or Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council, is the local authority of the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, England. It is a metropolitan borough council and provides the majority of local government services in the borough. The council has been a member of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority since 2014. The council has been under Labour majority control since 2012. Full council meetings generally alternate between Bootle Town Hall and Southport Town Hall. Sefton (racehorse)
Sefton (1875–1891) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a career that lasted from 1877 to 1878 he ran thirteen times and won three races. Sefton (army Horse)
Sefton (1963–1993) was a British Army horse who served for 17 years from 1967 to 1984, coming to prominence when he was critically injured in the Hyde Park and Regent's Park bombings which, combined, killed seven other horses and eleven people. He recovered sufficiently to return to active service and was subsequently awarded "Horse of the Year Show, Horse of the Year". Sefton became one of the first horses to be placed in the British Horse Society's equestrian Hall of Fame, and with an annual award named after him. Early life Sefton was born in July 1963 in County Waterford, Ireland, as a cross between an Irish Draught mare and a local thoroughbred stallion (thought to have been called Honour's Choice). Sefton Coast
Sefton Coast is a 4605.3 hectare (11379.9 acre) site of special scientific interest in England which stretches for 12 miles (20 km) between Southport and Waterloo, ending with Crosby Beach. The site was notified in 2000 for both its biological and geological features. It has species such as grass of Parnassus, wild orchids, rare butterflies, sand lizards, natterjack toads and waders. Sefton Coast includes Crosby Beach, which is also the site of an art installation by Antony Gormley, called ''Another Place''. Further north is the Formby Point National Trust site containing pinewoods and sand dunes. The whole of the area's coastline is managed as a Special Area of Conservation(SAC) by Sefton Coast Partnership because of its important wildlife reserves. Fred Sefton
Frederick Stanley Sefton (August 7, 1888 – March 11, 1976) was an American college football, college basketball, and college baseball coach and athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at the University of Akron for nine seasons, from 1915 to 1923, compiling a record of 33–34–4. Sefton also coached the men's basketball team at Akron for a total of 11 seasons, nine from 1916 to 1924 and two more from 1925 to 1927, tallying a total mark of 103–42. Kevin "Clyde" Sefton (born 20 January 1951) is a former road racing cyclist from Australia, who was a professional rider from 1972 to 1983. He represented his native country at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, where he won the silver medal in the men's individual road race, behind the Netherlands' Hennie Kuiper. He also competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics. He won the Australian national road race title in 1981. The Metropolitan Borough of Sefton is a metropolitan borough of Merseyside, England. It was formed on Local Government Act 1972, 1 April 1974, by the amalgamation of the county boroughs of Bootle and Southport, the municipal borough of Crosby, Merseyside, Crosby, the Urban district (Great Britain and Ireland), urban districts of Formby and Litherland, and part of West Lancashire Rural District. Allan Roy Sefton BEM (1921 – 2 May 1989) was an Australian ornithologist, naturalist and environmentalist. Employed by the steelworks at Port Kembla he spent much of his spare time was spent studying the natural history and promoting the environmental conservation, of the Illawarra region of eastern New South Wales. He was a bird bander and a founder of the New South Wales Albatross Study Group. Since 1993, he has been commemorated in the Allan Sefton Fund which awards a prize to the best graduate of the Honours Bachelor of Environmental Science Program at the University of Wollongong, and by the annual Allan Sefton Memorial Lecture there.
