Seetzenia
''Seetzenia'' is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Zygophyllaceae. Its native range is the Sahara to north-eastern Tropical Africa (in Algeria, the Cape Provinces, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Niger, Somalia, Sudan and the Western Sahara), Arabian Peninsula (in Afghanistan, the Gulf States, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen), the Sinai to India. The genus name of ''Seetzenia'' is in honour of Ulrich Jasper Seetzen (1767–1811), a German explorer of Arabia and Palestine from Jever, German Frisia. It was first described and published in Narr. Zygophyllaceae is a family of flowering plants that contains the bean-caper and caltrop. The family includes around 285 species in 22 genera. Plants in the family Zygophyllaceae may be trees, shrubs, or herbs. They are often found in dry habitats. The leaves are usually opposite, often with stipules and spines. Some are cultivated as ornamental plants, such as species of the '' Guaiacum'', ''Zygophyllum'', '' Tribulus'', and '' Larrea'' genera. King Clone, a creosote bush ''(Larrea tridentata)'' in California, is among the world's oldest living organisms. Ulrich Jasper Seetzen (30 January 1767September 1811) also known as Musa Al-Hakim was a German explorer of Arabia and Palestine (region), Palestine from Jever, German Frisia. An alternative spelling of his name, Ulrich Iospar Sentzen, is sometimes seen in scientific publications. Early life His father sent him to the University of Göttingen, where he graduated in medicine. His chief interests, however, were in natural history and technology; he wrote papers on these subjects which gained him some reputation. In 1802, he was appointed to a government post in Jever, but he was drawn to geographical exploration. Travels to Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Arabia In the summer of 1802 he started down the Danube with a companion, Jacobson. Robert Brown (botanist, Born 1773)
Robert Brown (21 December 1773 – 10 June 1858) was a Scottish botanist and paleobotanist who made important contributions to botany largely through his pioneering use of the microscope. His contributions include one of the earliest detailed descriptions of the cell nucleus and cytoplasmic streaming; the observation of Brownian motion; early work on plant pollination and fertilisation, including being the first to recognise the fundamental difference between gymnosperms and angiosperms; and some of the earliest studies in palynology. He also made numerous contributions to plant taxonomy, notably erecting a number of plant families that are still accepted today; and numerous Australian plant genera and species, the fruit of his exploration of that continent with Matthew Flinders.
