Seefeel
Seefeel is a British electronic and post-rock band formed in the early 1990s by Mark Clifford (guitar, programming), Daren Seymour (bass), Justin Fletcher (drums, programming), and Sarah Peacock (vocals, guitar). Their work became known for fusing guitar-based shoegaze with the production techniques of ambient techno and electronica. Initially forming as a more conventional rock band, Seefeel soon embraced electronic production and gained recognition for their 1993 debut EP '' More Like Space'' and first album '' Quique'' (1993), both on the British independent label Too Pure. The band subsequently released music on electronic labels Warp Records and Rephlex, and then went on an extended hiatus in 1997, with members pursuing the side-projects Scala and Disjecta. Quique (album)
''Quique'' is the debut album by British music group Seefeel. It was released through Too Pure in October 1993. A predominantly instrumental record which utilises elements of both rock music, rock and electronic music, it blends styles including techno, dream pop, ambient music, ambient, and dub music, dub. Guitarist Mark Clifford worked continually on tracks while other members either completed them or provided component ideas. The album was met with positive reviews from critics, and reached No. 12 in the UK Independent Singles and Albums Charts, UK Independent Albums Chart. It was followed by the EP ''Starethrough'' on Warp (record label), Warp in 1994. ''Quique'' was re-released in 2007 in a deluxe format that included unreleased, re-mixed tracks and other music that was only released on compilations. Mark Clifford
Mark Clifford is a British musician and producer known primarily for his involvement with his band Seefeel. He has been involved in a number of solo and collaborative projects which have resulted in a wide range of material released on many different labels including Warp Records, Rephlex Records, Bella Union, Editions Mego and his own Polyfusia label. Seefeel Seefeel was formed in 1992: Clifford advertising in local classifieds for members. In its earliest incarnation Sarah Peacock, Justin Fletcher and Mark Van Hoen represented guitar/vocals, drums and bass respectively, with Daren Seymour supplanting Van Hoen as the bassist early on. Too Pure signed Seefeel and published their first EPs and LP in 1993. More Like Space
''More Like Space'' is an EP by Seefeel. It was released in 1993 by Too Pure Records. The EP was later included on the compilation album ''Polyfusia'' which was released in 1994 by Astralwerks. Production The tracks on ''More Like Space'' were recorded around the same time as the material for Seefeel's album '' Quique''. Mark Clifford stated that the tracks on ''More Like Space'' were simpler while the tracks on ''Quique'' were more involved and took longer to create. The track "Blue Easy Sleep" was described as "essentially instrumental" "Time to Find Me (Come Inside)" features Sarah Peacock's on vocals while "Come Alive" features vocals from Mark Clifford. Release ''More Like Space'' was released on compact disc by Too Pure Records in 1993. Scala was an electronic rock band from London, UK formed in 1996 by members of the band Seefeel. They released two singles, three albums, and two EPs over the following two years. History The disintegration of the post-rock band Seefeel in 1996-1997 led to its lead member Mark Clifford continuing as essentially a solo act. The remaining members of Seefeel—Sarah Peacock, Justin Fletcher, and Daren Seymour—collaborated with former Seefeel member Mark Van Hoen to form the group Scala. Post-rock
Post-rock is a subgenre of experimental rock that emphasizes Texture (music), texture, atmosphere, and non-traditional song structures over conventional rock techniques. Mark Van Hoen
Mark Van Hoen (born September 1966, Croydon, London, England) is an English electronic music artist. He has created music under his own name as well as Locust, and Autocreation. Pitchfork said, "Musically, Van Hoen belongs to a distinguished family tree. Originally influenced by the likes of Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream, and later presaging both Autechre's glitch and Boards of Canada's pastoral IDM, with his latest album Van Hoen would fit in just as well alongside White Rainbow or Atlas Sound on a current label like Kranky: He combines oceanic drone with pop lyricism, using technology as a catalyst." Dream Pop
Dream pop (also typeset as dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Warp Records is a British independent record label that specialises in Electronic music, electronic, indie rock and experimental music. It was founded in Sheffield in 1989 by Steve Beckett, Robert Mitchell and Robert Gordon. Shigeru Ishihara, better known by the stage name DJ Scotch Egg, is a Japanese producer of chiptune/ gabba music based in Berlin, Germany. He has released music on the Wrong Music label and Adaadat, and was signed to Load Records after Lightning Bolt were impressed by his music. A new album entitled ''Scotch Hausen'' was released in Spring 2007. Contributions with other artists include Ove-Naxx, Hrvatski ( Keith Fullerton Whitman), Mike Paradinas, Duracell, Bong-Ra, The Pipettes and The Go! Team. Shige has recorded improvised music collaboratively with Ashley Marlowe and Sam Dook under the moniker Same Things. Two tracks have so far been released through Junior Aspirin Records. Rephlex Records was a record label launched in 1991 in Cornwall by Electronic music, electronic musician Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge. The label coined the term ''braindance'' to describe the output of Aphex Twin and fellow artists. History In 1989, Grant Wilson-Claridge met Richard D. James (a.k.a. Aphex Twin) DJing at The Bowgie, a club located just along the coast from Newquay, Cornwall. According to Wilson-Claridge, back in 1989, "the Bowgie was the best club ever...this was before Newquay turned into the Cornish Ibiza" and it was very difficult to hear new and interesting music.
