See Ya Later Gladiator
''See Ya Later Gladiator'' is a 1968 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Alex Lovy. The short was released on June 29, 1968, and stars Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales. Daffy and Speedy had been paired together in a series of cartoons from 1965 to 1968. This was their final theatrical pairing, and this was also the final theatrical short to star "classic" Warner Bros. characters as well as the last Golden Age of American Animation cartoon to feature Daffy or Speedy. After this short, until the cartoon division closed in 1969, new characters like Cool Cat, Bunny and Claude, Merlin the Magic Mouse, and a few one-shot cartoons made up all of WB's output. Alex Lovy
Alexander Lovy (September 2, 1913 – February 14, 1992) was an American animator. He spent the majority of his career as an animator and director at Walter Lantz Productions. He was later a producer at Hanna-Barbera, and also supervised the cartoon unit at Warner Bros. during its final days. Life and career Born in Passaic, New Jersey, Lovy's early career was spent as a comic artist at DC Comics. Later, he became an animator at the Lantz studio in the late 1930s. His first credit as a director was for ''Feed the Kitty'' in 1938. Studio head Walter Lantz was taking a hiatus from directing at this time, this gave Lovy an opportunity to direct many of the studio's shorts in the 1938–1940 period. He stepped down to become an animator in 1940 after Lantz reverted to being director. Cool Cat (Looney Tunes)
Cool Cat is a fictional cartoon character created by director Alex Lovy for Warner Bros.-Seven Arts Animation. He was the final star of the original Warner Bros. theatrical cartoons. His first appearance was in an eponymous short in 1967. He was voiced by Larry Storch. Robert McKimson took over as director for the last two cartoons in this series. In 1967, Jack L. Warner reorganized the Warner Bros. animation department, and hired Lovy away from Hanna-Barbera Productions to create new characters for Warners. The two that Lovy came up with were Cool Cat and Merlin the Magic Mouse. Biography Cool Cat is a hip Bengal tiger (whose design was very similar to that of The Pink Panther and Snagglepuss) who wore a stylish green beret and scarf. "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" is a song written in 1937 by Cliff Friend and Dave Franklin and published by Harms Inc., New York. It is best known as the theme tune for the ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon series and ''Merrie Melodies'' reissued cartoon series produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons, used from 1937 to 1969. The original version contains an introductory verse that leads up to the main part of the song, as a young man tells of his date with a young woman, in which they go to an amusement park and find time to "spark" while riding the malfunctioning carousel. A gladiator ( la, gladiator, "swordsman", from , "sword") was an armed combatant who entertained audiences in the Roman Republic and Roman Empire in violent confrontations with other gladiators, wild animals, and condemned criminals.
