Turkey was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 with the song "", composed by Semih Güneri, with lyrics by Figen Çakmak and Nurdan Güneri, and performed by Sedat Yüce. The Turkish participating broadcaster, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) held the national final on 23 February 2001 at its television studios in Ankara, hosted by Ömer Önder and Meltem Ersan. Ten songs competed and the winner was determined by an expert jury. At Eurovision On the evening of the contest Sedat Yüce performed 15th in the running order following France and preceding United Kingdom. Turkish Radio And Television Corporation
The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT; Turkish: ) is the national public broadcasting, public broadcaster of Turkey, founded in 1964. TRT was for many years the only television and radio broadcaster in Turkey. Before the introduction of commercial radio in 1990, and subsequently commercial television in 1992, it held a monopoly on broadcasting. More recent deregulation of the Turkish television broadcasting market produced analogue terrestrial television. Today, TRT broadcasts around the world, including in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the United States, and Australia. The Eurovision Song Contest 2001 was the 46th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, following the country's victory at the with the song " Fly on the Wings of Love" by Olsen Brothers. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), the contest was held at the Parken Stadium on 12 May 2001. The contest was presented by Danish television presenter Natasja Crone Back and actor Søren Pilmark. Işın Funda Büyükkaraca (born 7 March 1973), better known as Işın Karaca (), is a British-born Turkish Cypriot pop singer. Personal life Işın Funda Büyükkaraca was born into a Turkish Cypriot family which had emigrated to the United Kingdom. Her mother Şeniz Büyükkaraca is a restaurant owner in Cyprus and her father Ali Büyükkaraca (died 2011) was a real estate agent originally from Afyon, Turkey. She graduated from the London IV King Edward School with a theatre major. Karaca has a son (Erda Kıvanç, born 1993) from her first husband Soner Kıvanç, whom she later divorced. She had an affair for 12 years with arranger-composer Erdem Yörük. Karaca married director and motocross racer Sedat Doğan on 30 May 2011. She gave birth to her daughter Sasha Mia in 2011.
