Secrets Of The Titanic
''Secrets of the Titanic'' is a documentary, made and filmed over 1985, 1986, and 1987. Produced by the National Geographic Society, it was a ''National Geographic'' Video exclusive, narrated by Martin Sheen, written and produced by Nicolas Noxon consisting of historical photos and footage of the massive steamer being built and launched, the discovery and exploration by Dr. Robert Ballard, and a look inside the wreck, not only the ship itself, but the human story and sinking theories. Nicolas Noxon
Nicolas Lane Noxon (July 29, 1936 – May 3, 2016) was an American documentary filmmaker. He specialized in television programs dealing with history, science, and the natural world. Noxon produced television specials and series in association with ABC, David Wolper, Columbia Pictures Television, Metromedia, MGM, Survival Anglia, Time-Life, and National Geographic Television. Early life Noxon was born in 1936 in London, England, to a Canadian father, the writer and filmmaker Gerald Forbes Noxon, and an American mother, the painter Betty Lane. He emigrated to the United States when he was less than a year and a half. Noxon graduated from the private boarding school The Putney School. In 1959, he received his B.A. from Antioch College. Robert Ballard
Robert Duane Ballard (born June 30, 1942) is an American retired Navy officer and a professor of oceanography at the University of Rhode Island who is noted for his work in underwater archaeology (maritime archaeology and archaeology of shipwrecks) and marine geology. He is best known by the general public for the discoveries of the wrecks of the RMS ''Titanic'' in 1985, the battleship ''Bismarck'' in 1989, and the aircraft carrier in 1998. ''Argo'' is an unmanned deep-towed undersea video camera sled developed by Dr. Robert Ballard through Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute's Deep Submergence Laboratory. ''Argo'' is most famous for its role in the discovery of the wreck of the RMS ''Titanic'' in 1985. Argo would also play the key role in Ballard's discovery of the wreck of the battleship '' Bismarck'' in 1989. The towed sled, capable of operating depths of 6,000 meters (20,000 feet), meant 98% of the ocean floor was within reach. The original ''Argo'', used to find Titanic, was long, tall, and wide and weighed about in air.
