Secret Documents (film)
''Secret Documents'' (French: ''Documents secrets'') is a 1945 French spy thriller film directed by Léo Joannon and starring Marie Déa, Raymond Rouleau and Hugo Haas. Olivier & Chirat p.168 It was shot in 1940 during the Phoney War but was halted by the German invasion and its release delayed until after the Liberation. The film's sets were designed by the art director Émile Duquesne. Synopsis Rival spy networks battle over secret documents containing the formula for a vital new form of fuel. Léo Joannon
Léo Joannon (21 August 1904 – 28 March 1969) was a French writer and film director. Born in Aix-en-Provence, Joannon was originally a law student who became a novelist and journalist before entering the film industry in the 1920s as a cameraman. He was married to the Vietnamese actress Foun-Sen. Career Joannon first attracted international attention in early 1939 during the production of '' Alert in the Mediterranean'' when his attempts to include shots of a German naval ship docked in the port of Tangier created a diplomatic incident between the pre-World War II French and German governments. The film later won the Grand Prix du Cinema Français. Joannon is best known to international audiences as the director of the comedy film '' Atoll K'' (1951), which was the final motion picture starring the legendary comedic double act Laurel and Hardy. Roland Toutain
Roland Toutain (October 18, 1905 - October 16, 1977) was a French actor, songwriter and stuntman. He appeared in 55 films between 1924 and 1957, both in leading and supporting roles. Life and career Toutain is known for playing the aviator André Jurieux in Jean Renoir's film ''The Rules of the Game'' (La Règle du jeu). The role suited him: Toutain was also an avid hobby aviator, as well as an acrobat. He first gained fame as an actor in the adventure film ' and its sequel '. Toutain also appeared in Fritz Lang's ''Liliom'' (1934). His film career slowed down in the late 1940s and he made his final movie in 1956. He was a good friend of fellow actor Jean Marais, who organized his funeral.
