The Rainmakers are a Kansas City, Missouri-based original rock band, fronted by Bob Walkenhorst, which had a small string of hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s in the United States and Europe, especially Norway. Biography The Rainmakers were formed in 1983 as a three-piece bar band called Steve, Bob and Rich. They released one album, ''Balls'', under this name. The addition of drummer Pat Tomek allowed Walkenhorst to switch to guitar and assume the role of frontman. The band changed their name to The Rainmakers when they were signed to PolyGram by A&R man Peter Lubin. The band's self-titled 1986 debut album received good reviews in the U.S. entertainment media (''Newsweek'' magazine dubbed it "the most auspicious debut album of the year") and reached No. 87 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' album chart. It is their highest-charting album on the ''Billboard'' albums chart, reaching No. 85, and contains the single "Let My People Go-Go", which reached No. 18 on the UK Singles Chart. Neil Murray (Australian Musician)
Neil James Murray (born 1956) is an Australian musician, singer-songwriter-guitarist and writer. He was a founding member of the Warumpi Band (1980–1988, 1995–2000) which was the first major influential Aboriginal rock group with mostly Indigenous members. Murray was recognised as one of Australia's foremost songwriters at the APRA Awards of 1995 by winning Song of the Year for " My Island Home". Murray has had a solo career since 1989 and had issued eight studio albums by 2014. Murray regularly performed throughout Australia, either with a backing band, The Rainmakers, or solo. He undertook a series of performances with Shane Howard (ex-Goanna), as 2songmen from 2006 to 2007. Maia Christine Anu (born on 15 March 1970) is an Australian singer-songwriter and actress of Torres Strait Islander origin. She gained popularity with the cover song release of the Warumpi Band's song " My Island Home" in 1995.
