Edmund Wilson Searby
Edmund Wilson Searby (March 7, 1896 – September 14, 1944) was an American United States Army officer. He served during World War II as the Division Artillery Commander of the 80th Infantry Division. He lost his life during the battle to liberate the town of Pont-à-Mousson in Meurthe-et-Moselle. At his request, he was interred with the other soldiers who fought in France. He earned earned several posthumous awards, including the Silver Star from the American president. Biography Early life and education Edmund Searby was born on March 7, 1896, in Berkeley, California, to Frederick Wright Searby and Eleanor Porter Searby. He spent his childhood in Sonoma, California, before returning to Berkeley to study law at the University of California. John Searby
John Epton Searby (1 November 1900 – 12 October 1956) was an English cricketer. Born at Croft, Lincolnshire, Searby was a right-handed batsman. Searby made his debut in minor counties cricket for Lincolnshire against Staffordshire in the 1924 Minor Counties Championship. He played minor counties cricket for Lincolnshire from 1924 to 1935, making fifty appearances. In 1927 he appeared in a single first-class match, having been selected for an East of England cricket team against the touring New Zealanders at Wisbech Cricket Club Ground. In a match which the New Zealanders won by eight wickets, Searby opened the batting and was dismissed in the East's first-innings by Tom Lowry for 10 runs, while in their second-innings he was dismissed for 7 runs by Herb McGirr. He died at the village of his birth on 12 October 1956. His brother also played minor counties cricket for Lincolnshire. Richard Searby
Richard Henry Searby (23 July 1931 – 8 August 2018) was an Australian lawyer, company director and academic. His father was Dr. Henry Searby, a founding member of the Royal Melbourne Hospital at Parkville and his mother, Mary Searby, was a philanthropist involved in community programs for the benefit of underprivileged people. He was born on 23 July 1931. His brother, Michael, held a doctorate in philosophy from Cambridge University and had a career as a director of companies. He was educated first at home by his grandfather (a former headmaster of first, Essendon High School and subsequently Melbourne High School), and then at the Geelong Grammar School, where he was a school prefect. He attended Melbourne University as a resident of Ormond College for one year before leaving to study classics (Ancient Greek and Roman History and Philosophy and Ancient Greek and Latin) at Oxford University. Major General Robin Vincent Searby, (born 20 July 1947) is a retired British Army officer who commanded the 5th Division from 1996 to 1999. Military career Educated at Leasam House School and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Searby was commissioned into the 9th/12th Royal Lancers in 1968.Debrett's People of Today 1994 After service in Germany, Northern Ireland and Oman, he was appointed commanding officer of his regiment in 1987. He was appointed chief of staff to the Director Royal Armoured Corps in 1989, Commander Royal Armoured Corps for 1 (British) Corps in 1991 and Commander of British Forces in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia in 1993.
