Sean Murphy (journalist)
Sean Murphy is an Australian journalist. He was born in Western Australia in 1961. He was brought up on Rottnest Island where his parents owned a pub. He began working in journalism in 1979, when he worked for the '' Sunday Independent'' in Perth. He subsequently moved to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. He is currently a producer for ABC Television's ''Landline'' program since 2002. He is married, lives in Sydney and has two children. Rottnest Island
Rottnest Island ( nys, Wadjemup), often colloquially referred to as "Rotto", is a island off the coast of Western Australia, located west of Fremantle. A sandy, low-lying island formed on a base of aeolianite limestone, Rottnest is an A-class reserve, the highest level of protection afforded to public land. Together with Garden Island, Rottnest Island is a remnant of Pleistocene dune ridges. Along with several other islands, Rottnest became separated from the mainland around 7,000 years ago, when sea levels rose; the traditional Noongar name for the island is ''Wadjemup'', which means "place across the water where the spirits are". Human artefacts have been found on the island dating back at least 30,000 years, but visitation and habitation of the island by the Noongar people appears to have ceased following its separation from the mainland. ''The Sunday Independent'' (also known as ''The Independent'') was a Western Australia weekly newspaper owned by mining entrepreneurs Lang Hancock and Peter Wright, printed and published in the Perth suburb of East Victoria Park. Perth, Western Australia
Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. It is the fourth most populous city in Australia and Oceania, with a population of 2.1 million (80% of the state) living in Greater Perth in 2020. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia. ''Men at Birth'' is a book from Australian writer David Vernon. The book is an edited anthology of birth experiences, written by men. The experiences described are diverse, ranging from caesarean births and VBAC births, to births that take place at home and in a birth centre or labour ward. Steve Biddulph stated: The book has caused some controversy with its view that men who are poorly prepared for birth should not attend the birth of their child, as it may make the birth more difficult for the woman. David Vernon (born 1965 in Canberra, Australia) is an Australian writer and publisher. He has published several books relating to scepticism and childbirth. Biography Vernon is the only son of Michael Vernon and Jeanette Vernon. He established two businesses while at University, ''Whiahwe Waiting Services'' that provided catering to diplomatic missions in Canberra, and ''MangoSoft'', a software development house. He graduated from the Australian National University with qualifications in political science and economics in 1988. He subsequently obtained a Graduate Diploma in Law from University of Canberra and completed a Master of Environmental Science from Griffith University.
