Seafish Tasmania is an Australian privately owned fisheries company based in Triabunna, Tasmania. It is not to be confused with the newsletter of the same name. Super trawlers In 2010 the company ceased its operation of small fishing vessels claiming the venture was not profitable, attempting in 2012 to fish Australian waters using super trawlers, large factory ships owned by Dutch company Parlevliet & van der Plas with the ability to freeze catches onboard, requiring less returns to shore. It has had rights to fishing in federal legislative constraints in 2010, however the company attempts to introduce super trawlers have been problematic. In 2012 Federal politicians saw the expansion of the company in a positive light. In 2012, Seafish Tasmania was provided with a $420,000 government grant to produce locally made fish oil for human consumption. Triabunna
Triabunna is a rural residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Glamorgan–Spring Bay in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about north-east of the city of Hobart. The has a population of 905 for the state suburb of Triabunna. It is the second largest township on the east coast of Tasmania (after St Helens, population 2049, 2006 Census), the civic and municipal heart of the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council and is 84 kilometres to the north-east of the state capital Hobart. It is a coastal town on the Tasman Highway, and is sheltered within Spring Bay at the mouth of MacCleans Creek and Vickerys Rivulet. Eric Abetz
Eric Abetz (born 25 January 1958) is a former Australian politician who was a Senator for Tasmania from 1994 to 2022, representing the Liberal Party. He was the Minister for Employment and the Leader of the Government in the Senate in the Abbott Government from 2013 to 2015. He previously also served as Special Minister of State in the Howard Government from 2001 to 2006 and as Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Conservation from 2006 to 2007. Born in Germany (in what was then West Germany), Abetz emigrated to Australia as a small child, when his father came to work for Tasmania's Hydro Electric Commission. He was educated at the University of Tasmania and was a barrister and solicitor before entering politics.
