David Seaborg
David Seaborg (born 1949) is an evolutionary biology, evolutionary biologist, peace activist, author and leader in the environmental movement. He serves as director of the World Rainforest Fund, the Seaborg Open Space Fund, and the Greater Lafayette Open Space Fund (a conservancy raising money to purchase open space in the Lamorinda region). Life David Seaborg was born on April 22, 1949, in Berkeley, California and is the son of Helen L. Seaborg and Nobel Prize, Nobel Laureate Glenn T. Seaborg (who discovered plutonium among other accomplishments). He attended and graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a bachelor's degree in zoology. Seaborg Home
The Seaborg Home was the family home of Nobel Prize–winning chemist and nuclear pioneer, Glenn T. Seaborg from 1922 to 1934. Herman Theodore (Ted) and Selma Olivia (Erickson) Seaborg moved at Selma's urging from Ishpeming, Michigan in 1922 with their children Glenn Theodore Seaborg and Jeanette (Seaborg) Bonniksen to Home Gardens, California. The family purchased a home on 9237 San Antonio Avenue in an area of Home Gardens, later annexed to the city of South Gate, California. H. Theodore and Selma Seaborg lived in the home until their deaths in 1957 and 1968 respectively. While living in the home, Glenn Seaborg attended Home Gardens Grammar School (now Victoria Avenue Elementary School), David Starr Jordan High School, and the University of California, Los Angeles. Seaborgium is a Synthetic element, synthetic chemical element with the Symbol (chemistry), symbol Sg and atomic number 106. It is named after the American nuclear chemist Glenn T. Seaborg. As a synthetic element, it can be created in a laboratory but is not found in nature. It is also radioactive; the most stable known isotope, 269Sg, has a half-life of approximately 14 minutes. In the periodic table of the elements, it is a d-block transactinide element. It is a member of the period 7, 7th period and belongs to the group 6 elements as the fourth member of the 6d series of transition metals. Chemistry experiments have confirmed that seaborgium behaves as the heavier homology (chemistry), homologue to tungsten in group 6.
