Seaboard–All Florida Railway
The Seaboard–All Florida Railway was a subsidiary of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad that was created in June 1925. It oversaw two major extensions of the system to southern Florida on each coast in response to the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The company gave the construction contract for the extension to Foley Brothers of St. Paul, Minnesota, who was one of the largest railroad contractors in the country at the time. Both extensions were heavily championed by Seaboard Air Line president S. Davies Warfield (who died months after its completion), and were constructed by Foley Brothers railroad contractors. Both extensions also allowed the Seaboard to better compete with the Florida East Coast Railway and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, who already served the lower east and west coasts of Florida respectively. Seaboard Air Line Railroad
The Seaboard Air Line Railroad , known colloquially as the Seaboard Railroad during its time, was an American railroad that existed from April 14, 1900, until July 1, 1967, when it merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, its longtime rival, to form the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. Its predecessor railroads dated from the 1830s and reorganized extensively to rebuild after the American Civil War, and by 1900 had merged together to form the SAL. The company was headquartered in Portsmouth, Virginia until 1958, when its main offices were relocated to Richmond, Virginia. Styling itself as "The Route of Courteous Service", Seaboard, along with its main competitors Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, Florida East Coast Railway and Southern Railway, contributed greatly to the economic development of the Southeastern United States, and particularly to that of Florida throughout the first half of the 20th century. The ''Orange Blossom Special'' was a deluxe passenger train on the Seaboard Air Line Railroad connecting railroads between New York City and Miami in the United States. It ran during the winter season only. It covered on the Pennsylvania Railroad from New York City to Washington, D.C., the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad from Washington to Richmond, and the Seaboard Air Line Railroad from Richmond via Raleigh, Columbia, and Savannah to Miami. LaBelle is a city in and the county seat of Hendry County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,966 at the 2020 census, up from 4,640 at the 2010 census.
