Scruffy (1980 Film)
''Scruffy'' is a 1980 animated film produced by Ruby-Spears Productions and based on the 1978 British children's book ''Scruffy: The Tuesday Dog'' by Jack Stoneley. It originally aired in three parts on ''ABC Weekend Special'' series on October 4, 11 and 18, 1980 and was also the first animated television special to be shown in three parts on consecutive Saturday mornings. Synopsis Scruffy is a puppy with beautiful eyes, a loving heart and an eager intelligence, born in a deserted house she shares with her mother, Duchess. The story begins when Duchess' owners decide to move from their house to an apartment building and give Duchess to their neighbor Helen. However, Duchess sneaks back into the boarded up house and misses Helen when she comes by looking for her. Afterwards, Duchess gives birth to Scruffy. Charles August Nichols
Charles August "Nick" Nichols (September 15, 1910August 23, 1992) was a Canadian-born animator and film director, who worked in animation for over 50 years at Walt Disney Animation Studios and Hanna-Barbera. At Disney, he worked on various short subjects and films from the 1940s into the 1950s, including the Academy Award-winning short '' Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom'' (1953). Nichols co-directed '' Charlotte's Web'' (1973) while at Hanna-Barbera. Biography Nichols was born in Milford, Utah. As an animator for Disney, his first credit was on the film ''Pinocchio'', where he was the lead animator for the villainous Coachman. During World War II, Nichols animated several short subjects, including ''First Aiders'' (1944) and numerous cartoons involving the character Pluto. The authors of ''The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons'' opined Nichols' animation style made Pluto an "even more likable character." Janet Waldo (born Jeanette Marie Waldo; February 4, 1919 – June 12, 2016) was an American radio and voice actress. In animation, she voiced Judy Jetson in various Hanna-Barbera media, Nancy in ''Shazzan'', Penelope Pitstop, Princess from '' Battle of the Planets'', and Josie in '' Josie and the Pussycats''. On radio, she was the title character in '' Meet Corliss Archer''. Early life Jeanette Marie Waldo was born in Yakima, Washington.
