Scouting In Somalia
Somalia is one of 29 countries where Scouting exists but there is no National Scout Organization which is a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement at the present time, and no organization was ever recognized by WOSM during the nation's periods of Scouting history. Scouting existed in both British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland. Scouts in Somaliland of the late 1950s used British badges, being a branch of the UK Boy Scout Association. Somalia was represented at the 1967 World Jamboree. Scouting in Somalia appears to have existed until the 1990s, but due to the unrest in the country, no information on the situation on national level is currently available. In February 2007, United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF sources reported the existence of a local Scout group, ''Boy Scouts of Somaliland'', in Ceerigaabo, Somaliland. Erigavo ( so, Ceerigaabo, ), also spelled as Erigabo, is the capital and largest city of the Sanaag region of Somaliland. History The Erigavo settlement is several centuries old. Scout Motto
The Scout Motto of the Scout movement is, in English, "Be Prepared", with most international branches of the group using a close translation of that phrase. These mottoes have been used by millions of Scouts around the world since 1907. WOSM-Arab Region
The Arab Scout Region ( ar, الإقليم الكشفي العربي) also known as the Arab Scout Organization ( ar, المنظمة الكشفية العربية) is the regional support centre of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Cairo, Egypt. By 1954, Scouting had become so popular in Arab countries that WOSM established the Arab Scout Region in Damascus. WOSM-Africa Region
The Africa Scout Region is the divisional office of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with satellite offices in Cape Town, South Africa, and Dakar, Senegal. The Africa Region services Scouting in Sub-Saharan Africa and neighboring islands that are recognized members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Currently, the region has 39 member National Scout Associations/Organizations and 11 potential members. There are about one million registered Scouts in Africa, though it is suspected that there are about twice that number in the region.
