Scott Sinclair (politician)
Scott Sinclair (born September 12, 1984) is a Canadian politician and former hockey player from Alberta. He has been a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA) for the riding of Lesser Slave Lake since 2023, having succeeded Pat Rehn in that year's election. Sinclair is First Nation, and was the UCP’s only Indigenous candidate in the 2023 election. Having been elected as a United Conservative MLA, on March 7, 2025 Sinclair was removed from the UCP Caucus over comments made criticizing the budget. In 2025, along with Peter Guthrie, Sinclair announced plans to form a new political party in the name of the Progressive Conservatives. Biography Sinclair is the son of Gordon and Val Sinclair. Slave Lake, Alberta
Slave Lake is a town in northern Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124. It is approximately northwest of Edmonton. It is located on the southeast shore of Lesser Slave Lake at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 88. Slave Lake serves as a local centre for the area. The administrative office for the Sawridge First Nation is also located in the town. History The first European known to visit the area of the present-day Town of Slave Lake was the British explorer David Thompson, who arrived in 1799. Following his brief visit, other British agents established several fur trading posts around Slave Lake, including a Hudson's Bay Company post at the mouth of the lake. A settlement developed around the post and became known as Sawridge. It was renamed as Slave Lake in 1923. The Estevan Bruins are a junior ice hockey team playing in the Junior "A" Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). The team is based in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, and plays at Affinity Place. Yorkton is a city located in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada. It is about north-west of Winnipeg and south-east of Saskatoon and is the sixth largest city in the province. In Canada, the term non-status Indian () refers to any First Nations person who for whatever reason is not registered with the federal government, or is not registered to a band recognized under the Indian Act. For several decades, status Indian women automatically became non-status if they married men who were not status Indians. Prior to 1955, a status Indian could lose their status and become non-status through enfranchisement (voluntarily giving up status, usually for a minimal cash payment), by obtaining a college degree or becoming an ordained minister. The Yorkton Terriers are a team in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) based in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. The team plays their home games in the Westland Insurance Arena, which has a seating capacity of 2,300. The Terriers won the 2014 Royal Bank Cup as Junior A Champions of Canada. History The team joined the SJHL for the 1972–73 season and won its first league championship in 1983.
