Scott Murray is a British freelance journalist specialising in sport and working predominantly for The Guardian. Books Murray is the author of two sports-related books. He is the co-author, with Simon Farnaby, of '' The Phantom of the Open'', the biography of Maurice Flitcroft, the so-called world's worst golfer. Simon Farnaby (born 2 April 1973) is an English actor, comedian, children’s entertainer, writer and singer. He is best known for his work with the Them There collective where he has written and starred in productions including the sketch show ''Horrible Histories'', '' Yonderland'', Detectorists, and ''Ghosts'', as well as writing for film, most notably Paddington 2. ''The Phantom of the Open'' is a 2021 British biographical comedy-drama film directed by Craig Roberts, about the exploits of Maurice Flitcroft. Maurice Flitcroft
Maurice Gerald Flitcroft (23 November 1929 – 24 March 2007) was a British golfer. Flitcroft received widespread attention after shooting a score of 121 in the qualifying competition for the 1976 Open Championshipthe worst score recorded at the Open Championship by a self-professed "professional golfer", having been an inexperienced golfer. Subsequently, he gained significant media coverage, being referred to as "the world's worst golfer". Early life Flitcroft was born in Manchester on 23 November 1929. As a child during the war, he was evacuated to Kendal in the Lake District, where he lodged with a Mrs Langhorn and was a pupil at Kendal Grammar School.
