Scotford, Alberta
Strathcona County is a specialized municipality in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region within Alberta, Canada between Edmonton and Elk Island National Park. It forms part of Census Division No. 11. Strathcona County is both urban and rural in nature. Approximately of its population lives in Sherwood Park, which is an urban service area east of Edmonton, remains an unincorporated hamlet. The balance lives beyond Sherwood Park within a rural service area. History In Treaty 6, the First Nations ceded their title to the land that would become Strathcona County. Local governance began in 1893 when the North-West Territorial Legislature established an area east of Edmonton as ''Statute Labour District No. 2''. It then grew in size over the following decade and was renamed ''Local Improvement District (LID) No. 517'' in 1913. Scotford Upgrader
The Shell Scotford Upgrader is an oilsand upgrader, a facility which processes crude bitumen from oil sands into a wide range of synthetic crude oils. The upgrader is owned by Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP), a joint venture of Shell Canada, Shell Canada Energy (60%), Marathon Oil, Marathon Oil Sands L.P. (20%) and Chevron Corporation, Chevron Canada Limited (20%). The facility is located in the industrial development of Scotford, Alberta, Scotford, just to the northeast of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta in the Edmonton Capital Region. Site The Scotford Upgrader is a part of a larger site known as Shell Scotford located 40 km northeast of Edmonton, Alberta. Shell Scotford comprises three operating units: the Upgrader, a Refinery, and a Chemical plant. The Scotford Cogeneration Plant is also located on the site. Scotford Cogeneration Plant is a natural gas power station owned by Heartland Generation. The plant is located in Strathcona County, just northeast of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada at the Scotford Upgrader site. Eloise Scotford
Eloise Scotford (born 1978) is an Australian academic, currently Professor of Environmental Law and Dean at the UCL Faculty of Laws. Early life and education Scotford grew up in Sydney, Australia. Her mother was a local councillor involved in environmental protection, and her father was a lawyer. She read combined law and sciences at the University of Sydney, where she won the University Medal in Law, and clerked for Chief Justice of Australia Murray Gleeson. Scotford then continued her studies with a Bachelor of Civil Law at Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating with distinction. Academic career While preparing a Doctor of Philosophy in Law at University of Oxford, Scotford taught European Union law and environmental law at Corpus Christi College, Oxford as Career Development Fellow.
