''Scorched'' is a 2003 American crime comedy film directed by Gavin Grazer, starring Alicia Silverstone, Rachael Leigh Cook, Woody Harrelson and John Cleese. ''Scorched'' follows the story of several disgruntled bank employees who all try to rob the same bank on the same night without knowing that others are doing exactly the same thing. The film had a poor financial performance at the box office. From the initial budget of US $7 million, ''Scorched'' earned back $8,000 at the end of its theatrical run. It was pulled from its theatrical run after a sole weekend in the theaters where it managed to earn $666 per theater. Plot Sheila Rilo is a bank teller at Desert Savings Bank in a small desert town. Her boyfriend is Rick Becker, the bank manager who was informed by his superiors that he would be fired if the bank's ATMs were to be robbed just one more time. The telemovie was titled ''Strike Team'', which was ultimately as a decoy due to the state government having been uncomfortable about the premise and plot of the script. ''Scorched'' won the International Emmy Award for Digital Program: Fiction in 2009. Synopsis ''Scorched'' looks at the problems of climate change and water scarcity in the near future. The year is 2012, and after over 240 days without rain, Sydney has only two weeks of water left. As a state of emergency is declared when a ring of bushfires erupt around the city, a reporter uncovers a conspiracy behind the water crisis. Plot It is several days before Christmas in 2012, and Sydney is in the midst of a water crisis. ''Incendies'' is a 2003 play by Wajdi Mouawad. The play was translated into English as ''Scorched'' by Linda Gaboriau and was published in 2005 by Playwrights Canada Press. The play was based on parts of the life of the Lebanese communist militant Souha Bechara. Charlotte Facet notes that Mouawad met with Bechara before writing the play, but adds that some of the material is adapted from Randa Chahal Sabag's film work on and with Bechara, while noting that many of the characteristics of Bechara are divided among the main characters including Jeanne and Simon, rather than Nawal alone. It was the second part of a thematically-related, but not strictly sequential, trilogy of plays about characters of Middle Eastern origins confronting family secrets, preceded by ''Tideline (Littoral)'' and followed by ''Forests (Forêts)''.
