Anatomidae
Anatomidae is a family of small sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the clade Vetigastropoda Vetigastropoda is a major taxonomic group of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks that form a very ancient lineage. Taxonomically the Vetigastropoda are sometimes treated as an order, although they are treated as an unranked clade in Bouch ... (according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). Anatomidae was raised to the rank of subfamily to the rank of family in a study by Geiger & Jansen (2004). Bouchet & Rocroi placed it in the superfamily Scissurelloidea. This was disputed in 2008 by Yasunori Kano who does not believe that Anatomidae should be separated from Scissurellidae and actually states that it is the subfamily Anatominae. He suggests that this result was induced by contamination or mislabelling. This family has no subfamilies. Genera Genera within the family Anatomidae include: * '' Anatoma'' Woodward, 1859 * '' Sasakiconcha'' Geiger, ... Depressizonidae
''Depressizona'' is a genus of small to minute sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs or micromolluscs in the superfamily Scissurelloidea. ''Depressizona'' is the only genus within the family Depressizonidae. Depressizonidae was described as the subfamily Depressizoninae Geiger, 2003, in 2003. Then in 2005 it was considered to be a synonym of Scissurellinae in the family Scissurellidae according to the taxonomy of Bouchet & Roctoi (2005) and it has also been placed in Scissurellidae. In 2009 it was updated to the family level, Depressizonidae, when the second known species '' Depressizona axiosculpta'' was described. Species Genus ''Depressizona'' contains two species only: * '' Depressizona axiosculpta'' Geiger, 2009Geiger D. L. (2009). "A new species of ''Depressizona'' and the family rank of Depressizonidae". Scissurella Costata
''Scissurella costata'' is a species of small sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Scissurellidae. Description The size of the shell varies between 1 mm and 2.5 mm. The thin, white shell is transparent. The spire is depressed, and composed of 4 whorls that are plane on their upper surfaces, strongly carinated at the periphery, and convex below the carina. The body whorl is very large, and widely umbilicated. The oblique aperture is subquadrangular. The simple columella is arcuate. The simple lip is sinuous, with a narrow profound fissure. The slit fasciole forms the carina of the whorls, with elevated, lamellar edges, and arcuate growth lamellae. The umbilicus is broad and deep. It is carinated at the border. The surface is sculptured with arcuate longitudinal riblets, widely spaced and a little undulating, and fine spiral striae. Micromollusc
A micromollusc is a shelled mollusc which is extremely small, even at full adult size. The word is usually, but not exclusively, applied to marine molluscs, although in addition, numerous species of land snails and freshwater molluscs also reach adult size at very small dimensions. These tiny molluscs or their tiny shells are easy to overlook, as many of them are not very noticeable to the naked eye, and thus many people are not aware that they even exist. Nonetheless there are large numbers of families and vast numbers of mollusc species, in particular marine gastropods or sea snails, which are minute enough to be considered micromolluscs. Considerable numbers of marine gastropod species are only about 5 or 6 mm in adult size; many others are only about 2 or 3 mm in adult size; and a few have adult shells which are as small as one millimeter or even smaller still. Micromolluscs are known to have adult shells as small as 600 μm.Geiger et al 2007, Pg. 1 De ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Taxonomy Of The Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005)
The taxonomy of the Gastropoda as it was revised in 2005 by Philippe Bouchet and Jean-Pierre Rocroi is a system for the scientific classification of gastropod mollusks (Gastropods are a taxonomic class of animals which consists of snails and slugs of every kind, from the land, from freshwater, and from saltwater). The paper setting out this taxonomy was published in the journal '' Malacologia''. The system encompasses both living and extinct groups, as well as some fossils whose classification as gastropods is uncertain. The Bouchet & Rocroi system was the first complete gastropod taxonomy that primarily employed the concept of clades, and was derived from research on molecular phylogenetics; in this context a clade is a "natural grouping" of organisms based upon a statistical cluster analysis. In contrast, most of the previous overall taxonomic schemes for gastropods relied on morphological features to classify these animals, and used taxon ranks such as order, superorder ...
