The Rockport train wreck occurred in Rockport in Mansfield Township, New Jersey, United States, about three miles outside of Hackettstown, on June 16, 1925. Shirocco (foaled 10 April 2001) is a German Thoroughbred racehorse. He was trained in his native Germany by Andreas Schütz up to the end of his three-year-old season before moving to French trainer André Fabre to race as a four and five year old. Background Shirocco was sired by Monsun, a German racehorse and leading sire. His dam was The Minstrel mare So Sedulous who won two races when trained in England by Geoff Wragg. Şuluk Mehmed Pasha (1525 – 7 October 1571), better known in Europe as Mehmed Siroco or Mahomet Sirocco, and also spelled Sulik, Chulouk, Şolok, Seluk, or Suluc and known with the titles Pasha, Reis, or Bey, was the Ottoman Bey (regional governor) of Alexandria in the mid-16th century. Both the foreign and the Turkish nicknames (and their various spellings) were derived from the name of the southern Mediterranean wind Sirocco, from Greek ''sirokos'' and the hence derived Levantine Arabic ''shlūq'', respectively. Mehmed Siroco was appointed admiral in command of the Turkish right at the Battle of Lepanto (1571). USS ''Sirocco'' (PC-6) is the sixth of the U.S. Navy. ''Sirocco'' was laid down 20 June 1992 by Bollinger Shipyards in Lockport, Louisiana.
