Scintillo
Scintillo (foaled 6 February 2005) is a United Kingdom, British-bred Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse which raced out of the United Kingdom. At the age two the Colt (horse), colt won the Gran Criterium Group 1. Following an average three-year-old season he, like his sire, came into his own as a four-year-old, winning several significant contests. These include the Grand Prix de Chantilly and the Winter Derby. He was also the ROA All-weather horse of the year 2009. He was trained by Richard Hannon, Sr. in Wiltshire UK and owned by the White Beech Farm racing syndicate. Bred by the Woodcote Stud Scintillo is out of Danseuse Du Soir, which was the Broodmare of the Year in 2007. Danseuse Du Soir won the French 1,000 guineas (the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches) and the Prix de la Forêt in 1991. Winter Derby
The Winter Derby is a Group 3 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged four years or older. It is run over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs () at Lingfield Park in February or March. History The event was established in 1998, and the inaugural edition was won by Running Stag. It was given Listed status in 1999, and promoted to Group 3 level in 2006. The Winter Derby is run on a Polytrack surface. It is one of four non-turf Group races in Britain, along with the Chipchase Stakes, September Stakes and the Sirenia Stakes. Grand Prix De Chantilly
The Grand Prix de Chantilly is a Group 2 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds aged four years or older. It is run at Chantilly over a distance of 2,400 metres (about 1½ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late May or early June. The event replaced the Grand Prix d'Évry, a race established when Évry Racecourse opened in 1973. It was run each year until the venue closed in 1996, and the present version was introduced at Chantilly in 1997. The leading horses from the Grand Prix de Chantilly often go on to compete in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. The last to win both in the same year was Waldgeist in 2018. The Grand Prix de Chantilly is now staged on the same day as the Prix du Jockey Club. Richard Hannon, Sr
Richard Michael Hannon (born 1945), known as Richard Hannon Sr. to distinguish him from his son, is a former British horse trainer. He was British flat racing Champion Trainer four times, achieved more than a century of victories in a season 20 times, a double century five times, and turned out 32 Royal Ascot winners. He operated out of Herridge Racing Stables, near Marlborough, Wiltshire, with a smaller yard at Everleigh on the edge of Salisbury Plain. He retired after winning a final trainers' championship at the end of 2013, when the training operation was taken over by his son, Richard Hannon, Jr. History Hannon's family had a tradition of horse training — his father Harry was also a trainer. Gran Criterium
The Gran Criterium is a Group 2 flat horse race in Italy open to two-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at Milan over a distance of 1,500 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in October. The event held Group 2 status for a period in the 1970s. It was subsequently promoted, and was Italy's only Group 1 race for juvenile horses. It was downgraded back to Group 2 from 2014. Fantastic Light
Fantastic Light (foaled February 13, 1996) is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse and pensioned sire. He was foaled in the United States but was trained in England and Dubai during his racing career, which ran from August 1998 to his retirement following the Breeders' Cup Turf in October 2001. He raced in seven countries, winning Group One/Grade I races in five of them and was a dual winner of the Emirates World Series Racing Championship. He was named United States Champion Male Turf Horse, European Horse of the Year and European Champion Older Horse in 2001. He was also well known for his two races against the 2001 Epsom Derby winner Galileo. In August 2012 it was announced that he had been pensioned from stallion duty while in Japan and would return to Dalham Hall in England to live out his days as a pensioner. Chestnut (coat)
Chestnut is a hair coat color of horses consisting of a reddish-to-brown coat with a mane and tail the same or lighter in color than the coat. Chestnut is characterized by the absolute absence of true black hairs. It is one of the most common horse coat colors, seen in almost every breed of horse. Chestnut is a very common coat color but the wide range of shades can cause confusion. The lightest chestnuts may be mistaken for palominos, while the darkest shades can be so dark they appear black. Chestnuts have dark brown eyes and black skin, and typically are some shade of red or reddish brown. The mane, tail, and legs may be lighter or darker than the body coat, but unlike the bay they are never truly black. A colt is a male horse, usually below the age of four years. Description The term "colt" only describes young male horses and is not to be confused with foal, which is a horse of either sex less than one year of age. Rahy
Rahy (February 18, 1985 – September 22, 2011) was a Thoroughbred racehorse who competed in England and the United States. Background Bred by Hill 'n' Dale Farms in Lexington, Rahy was a son of the very important sire Blushing Groom and out of the Eclipse Award winner and Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame mare Glorious Song. Rahy was purchased as a yearling for US$2 million by Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum and brought to race in England for the 1987 season. Thatching is the craft of building a roof with dry vegetation such as straw, water reed, sedge (''Cladium mariscus''), rushes, heather, or palm branches, layering the vegetation so as to shed water away from the inner roof.
