Schvendes
Schvendes is a band of brothers and sisters from Perth, Western Australia. They write stories about murder, mayhem, love and loss upon a background of gentle Rhodes piano, pounding drums, screaming guitar, soaring cello and vocals, which have been described as both sweet and terrifying. With an emphasis on lyrics depicting small disasters and celebration of everyday existence, their music is a blend of country, dirty blues and rock. Their influences include Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Dirty Three, PJ Harvey, Ennio Morricone, Tom Waits and Nina Simone. History Schvendes were originally known as ''The Schvendes Ensemble'', a gothy musical wing of the 2002 Artrage Festival, where they performed under the auspices of performance art within art festivals. West Australian Music Industry Awards
The Western Australian Music Industry Awards (commonly known as WAMis) are annual awards presented to the local contemporary music industry, put on by the Western Australian Music Industry Association Inc (WAM). History WAM was originally formed as the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Association Inc. (WARMIA) in 1985, with its main aim to develop and run annual awards recognising achievements within the music industry in Western Australia. WAM first received project funding from the state government in 1989, and in the early 1990s the word "rock" was dropped from the title to give the organisation scope to take on a broader constituency. In 1994 the inaugural Kiss My WAMi Original Contemporary Music Festival was held. Edmund Kuepper (born 20 December 1955) is a German-born Australian guitarist, Singing, vocalist and songwriter. He co-founded the punk band The Saints (Australian band), The Saints in 1973, the experimental post-punk group Laughing Clowns (active 1979–85) and the grunge-like The Aints! (1991–94, 2017–present). He has also recorded over a dozen albums as a solo artist using a variety of backing bands. His highest charting solo album, ''Honey Steel's Gold'', appeared in November 1991 and reached No. 28 on the ARIA Charts, ARIA Albums Chart. Big Day Out
The Big Day Out (BDO) was an annual music festival that was held in five Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast, Adelaide, and Perth, as well as Auckland, New Zealand. The festival was held during summer, typically in January of each year but was sometimes held as late as early February in some cities including Perth. The event was conceptualised after the Violent Femmes announced a tour of Australia. Promoters Ken West and Vivian Lees sought another act as middle-level support for the band's tour. They succeeded in securing Nirvana (band), Nirvana to play the Sydney leg at the Hordern Pavilion. The Big Day Out debuted on the 1992 Australia Day public holiday in Sydney and eventually expanded to Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth the following year. Sally Mary Seltmann (born Sally Mary Russell, 11 September 1975), is an Australian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and Record producer. From 2000 to 2009, Seltmann used the stage name, New Buffalo. Under that name, Seltmann wrote, performed, arranged and produced her debut album, ''The Last Beautiful Day'' in September 2004. Holly Sarah Throsby is an Australian musician and novelist. Her work as a solo artist has produced six albums. She was nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Female Artist in 2006 for '' Under the Town''; and in the same category in 2008 for '' A Loud Call''. History In 1994, Ash Santilla and Gavin Campbell met at high school in their hometown of Benalla, Victoria, and became good friends, bonding over their shared passion for rock music. Their first band was named Naybious, inspired by Gavin's sister Lauren's one-eyed doll. Tucker B's are an Australian band, originally from Perth, but based in Sydney since 2005. History The Tucker B's were formed at the end of 1994 by Matt Rudas and Andrew Houston, performing their first gig together at the Harbourside in Fremantle. In 1995, with the addition of Sean Pezzali, they released a tape called ''Pipo Karna Eh''. ''Arm A Drunk'' was released in 1997; shortly afterwards, drummer Sean Pezzali left to work in Australia's north. In 2003, with the addition of Darren Nuttall and Tim Day, the Tucker B's released ''Bish Bosh II: The Bosh Bosh'' through Quietly Suburban Records. Decoder Ring is an experimental electronic- rock crossover group from Australia. History Decoder Ring was formed in 2001, in Sydney, Australia.
