School Days (1921 Film)
''School Days'' is a 1921 American comedy film directed by William Nigh, written by Walter DeLeon, Hoey Lawlor and William Nigh, and starring Wesley Barry, George Lessey, Nellie Parker Spaulding, Margaret Seddon, Arline Blackburn, and J.H. Gilmour. It was released by Warner Bros. on December 25, 1921 and was Warner's biggest grossing film until '' The Sea Beast'' in 1926. Prints of ''School Days'' survives at the George Eastman House and UCLA Film and Television Archive with one reel missing. Plot As described in a film magazine, Speck Brown (Barry) is a country boy who has been raised by the hard hearted Deacon Jones (Lessey). The Deacon insists that Speck attend school, but when the teacher (Seddon) defends the boy against his vicious guardian, Jones turns against her. William Nigh
William Nigh, born Emil Kreuske (October 12, 1881 – November 27, 1955), was an American film Film director, director, screenwriter, writer, and actor. His film work sometimes lists him as either "Will Nigh" or "William Nye". Biography Nigh was born Emil Kreuske''Silent Film Necrology'', p. 393 2nd edition c.2001 by Eugene Michael Vazzana in Berlin, Wisconsin. He began his film career as an actor, appearing in 17 films in 1913 and 1914; he also directed one of these, ''Salomy Jane (1914 film), Salomy Jane''. He acted in eight more films in the 1910s and two more in the 1920s, but he is known mainly as a prolific director, with a total output of 119 films, the last in 1948. A reel is a tool used to store elongated and flexible objects (e.g. yarns/ cords, ribbons, cables, hoses, etc.) by wrapping the material around a cylindrical core known as a '' spool''. Many reels also have flanges (known as the ''rims'') around the ends of the spool to help retain the wrapped material and prevent unwanted slippage off the ends. Jerome Patrick (June 2, 1883 – September 26, 1923) was a New Zealand born American stage and film actor. Born Alexander Patrick, he worked as a dentist while acting locally and in Australia, where in 1912 he married Ethel Joan Meynelle, the daughter of a prominent Australian theatrical manager. He then moved to the US in 1914 and also spent time in Toronto, where he signed up for the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War One (noting he had previously served four years with the New Zealand Hussars. He was discharged after 'several' nervous breakdowns, the doctor noting a previous heroin addiction and unstable nervous system, although completely abstaining from alcohol. A clothespin (US English) or clothes peg (UK English), also spelled "clothes pin" is a fastener used to hang up clothes for drying, usually on a clothes line. Clothespins come in many different designs. Design During the 1700s laundry was hung on bushes, limbs or lines to dry but no clothespins can be found in any painting or prints of the era. The clothespin for hanging up wet laundry only appears in the early 19th century supposedly patented by Jérémie Victor Opdebec. This design does not use springs, but is fashioned in one piece of wood, with the two prongs part of the peg chassis with only a small distance between them—this form of peg creates the gripping action due to the two prongs being wedged apart and thus squeezing together in that the prongs want to return to their initial, resting state.
