Summer Schmit (born August 8, 2003) is an American Paralympic swimmer who represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Schmit made her international debut for the United States at the 2019 Parapan American Games, where she won a silver medal in the 200 metre individual medley and a bronze medal in the 100 metre breaststroke SB9 event. Nicolas Schmit (born 10 December 1953) is a Luxembourgish politician who served as European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights from 2019 to 2024. A member of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), he was the EU-wide Spitzenkandidat of the centre-left PES at the 2024 EU elections. He was previously a member of the government of Luxembourg from 2004 to 2019 and a member of the European Parliament (MEP) in 2019. Matt Schmit (born 1979) is an American state politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he represented District 21 in southeastern Minnesota. Lydie Schmit (31 January 1939 – 7 April 1988) was a Luxembourgish politician and teacher. Schmit joined the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party in 1970. By 1974, she had been chosen as President of the party: a position that she held until 1980. She entered public office in 1976, when she was joined the communal council of Schifflange, of which she remained a member until her death. She entered the Chamber of Deputies in 1979, but only served for a year before leaving the office to work for the Socialist International, of which she was vice-president, as well as President of the Socialist International Women. She left these positions in 1984 to stand, and be elected, in the European election of that year.
