Schleife
Schleife (; , ) is a municipality of 3,000 in northern Görlitz district, northeast Saxony, Germany. It is the seat of the ''Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Schleife'' (about 5,000 inhabitants). The municipality is part of the recognized Sorbian settlement area in Saxony. Upper Sorbian has an official status next to German, all villages bear names in both languages. Administration During the 1990s, there were municipal reforms in Saxony to make the administration more effective and less expensive. In that time, Schleife was joined by the two villages of Mulkwitz and Rohne, and the ''Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Schleife'', based on the parish of Schleife, was established. Sorbian Settlement Area
The Sorbian settlement area ( , , ; in Brandenburg officially ''Siedlungsgebiet der Sorben/Wenden'') commonly makes reference to the area in the east of Saxony and the South of Brandenburg in which the West Slavs, West Slavic people of the Sorbs (in Brandenburg also called "Wends") live Indigenous peoples, autochthonously. In colloquial German, it is called Sorbenland (Land of the Sorbs); before 1945 also – sometimes pejoratively – called ''Wendei''. This area was reduced constantly during the centuries due to Cultural assimilation, assimilation, Germanisation, Germanization and Surface mining, strip mining lignite. Görlitz (district)
Görlitz district (; Upper Sorbian: ''Wokrjes Zhorjelc'' ; ) is a district ('' Kreis'') in Saxony, and the easternmost in Germany. It is named after its capital Görlitz. It borders (from the west and clockwise) the district of Bautzen, the state of Brandenburg, Poland and the Czech Republic.
